Emily has recently seen an increasing number of patients struggling with foot pain. These conditions can make everyday activities like walking, exercising, or even standing uncomfortable and frustrating.
If you’re dealing with foot pain, it’s important to understand your options.
So what are your choices?
When foot pain strikes, most people fall into one of these four categories:
Do Nothing:
It might be tempting to ignore the problem and hope it goes away. Unfortunately, many foot conditions worsen over time if left unaddressed, potentially leading to more persistent pain and compensation elsewhere in the body.
Painkillers and Rest:
This can help manage symptoms in the short term, but it doesn’t address the underlying cause. Once activity resumes, the pain often returns.
Corticosteroid Injections: Injections may reduce inflammation and pain temporarily and in the long term reduce the resilience of the area. However, they don’t correct the mechanical issues contributing to the problem and are usually limited in how often they can be used.
Surgery:
In more severe cases, surgery may be recommended. This can involve long waiting times and a significant recovery period. Often including several weeks of non-weightbearing, which can be challenging and disruptive.
What Can We Do To Help?
At The Spinal Answer Chiropractic, we take a different approach focusing on identifying and addressing the root cause of your foot pain.
Comprehensive Mechanical Assessment:
We will assess how your whole body moves, including your posture, gait, and foot mechanics. Often, foot pain is linked to the way forces travel through your body, but it could also be a referred pain.
Chiropractic Manipulation:
When appropriate, adjusting and manipulating the many joints of the foot can often resolve the problem in conjunction with a variety of other simple interventions including the following:
Footwear:
Simple changes in footwear can make a significant difference. We can guide you on choosing shoes that better support your feet and reduce strain.
Selected Orthotics:
Where appropriate, orthotics can be prescribed to improve foot alignment, redistribute pressure, and support healing.
Class IV Laser Therapy:
We offer a short course of laser therapy using our in-clinic laser machine. Evidence supports the use of laser to significantly reduce inflammation, promote healing, and ease pain. It is an effective, non-invasive therapy option.
To support your recovery, we offer structured care packages tailored to your needs, combining the most effective approaches specific to your condition.
If you are experiencing any pain you can always book an appointment or a re-examination appointment.
Foot pain (or any pain!) doesn’t have to become your “new normal.” With the right approach, many cases can be managed effectively without resorting to leaving it or invasive options!
