Painless procedures? Yes please

I have absolutely no pain threshold at all, all of my colleagues will confirm! 😬😂

I like to do as much as we can for patients to minimise discomfort and through utilising my background in anaesthetics, I frequently perform nerve blocks in the face to dramatically improve comfort.

The infraorbital nerve is blocked using a very small injection in the midface which reduces sensation in the area above for about 30-60 minutes. This allows for comfortable procedures and combination sessions involving the under eyes, midface and lips.

While definitely not required for procedures, for people who struggle with injectables (like me) it’s a total game changer.

Would you have a nerve block? Or have you had one? Let me know in the comments ⬇️

Thinking about laser? Drop your questions below ⬇️

We are absolutely obsessed with these before and afters, which make up some of many of the reasons why we love BBL and MOXI in clinic.

We can tailor these laser and light based treatments to every skin type, targeting pigmentation, blood vessels, acne and signs of ageing.

The results speak for themselves but if you’re looking to start your journey to the best skin of your life then we’d love to see you for a consultation.

Painless lip procedures? Yes please 🙌🏼

A nerve block is one method of reducing discomfort to lip, lower face and mid-face procedures. I will often use this in my practice to carry out combination treatments such as the lips and treating ‘smokers lines’. I also use these when performing laser treatments and radio frequency micro needling like Morpheus8 in sensitive areas.

Lip fillers and regenerative treatments absolutely do not ‘require’ this technique, but for those who struggle with injectables (like me), it offers a more comfortable alternative.

This is in no way an instructional video, but explains the anatomy behind the procedure.

Using this technique we block the Infraorbital and mental nerves using small amount of local anaesthetic.

Let me know your thoughts! Have you had a nerve block? ⬇️🤔

Life doesn’t always go to plan, but learning and growing requires making mistakes!

Social media is fantastic at connecting us and probably around 50% of my patients come from here now. My patients regularly bring up the fact that following me for a while engenders a certain level of trust, and authenticity helps establish this!

Although curated to be perfect and positive, life always has its ups and downs and I wanted to jump on this trend to show that it’s not always the case, but we learn! 🫶🏼❤️☺️

What are your recent flops! (Just so I can see it’s not just me haha)

Because glowing skin is harder to ignore than your texts ✨

Also if you’ve asked me to treat the forehead and I say no, then this is why!

To achieve a ‘lift’ of the brows we want to treat the depressor muscles and leave the elevators alone. The frontalis muscle can then act unopposed which elevates the brows slightly. This is helpful in improving the appearance of a hooded brow which becomes more apparent with the ageing process.

Hooded brows are also caused by the decrease in skin quality and volume loss associated with ageing and a holistic approach with treatment layering is the most effective way to address this concern.

Treatments can improve or worsen a concern depending on how they are performed. This is exactly why there is no one-size-fits-all approach to cosmetic treatments.

In the right patient, the results can be transformative, while without anatomical understanding, a patient can be left feeling worse-off!

It’s crucial that your practitioner carries out an in depth consultation and assessment of your anatomy and also, can explain to you why the treatment is being recommended (or not).

Today marks the day I’ve been a doctor for 9 years!

The first Wednesday in August is when the newly qualified doctors start their jobs, also called ‘Black Wednesday’ 😬

It made a good opportunity for me to reflect on my career and where things are heading! For those who are new, it’s a pleasure to introduce myself and share my journey.

My advice to new doctors:

1. Be kind. To patients, to staff. You have no idea what others are going through. Never forget this no matter how busy you become

2. Stay curious. There is something to learn from every job, no matter how trivial it may be

3. Nurses and midwives are you best friends. They often have an enormous wealth of experience, particularly in their specialities. Listen to them.

4. Your ‘interesting case’ might be that patients ‘worst day of their life’. Keep perspective

5. Prioritise yourself. Make time for self-care, exercise. Enjoy your days off and spend time with your loved ones. Medicine is a part of your life. Not your whole life

So why do my experiences make me a better injector?

Anaesthetists perform nerve blocks. I now use these in my aesthetics practice a lot. Ablative lasers, scalp treatments, midface, lip and lower face procedures are much more comfortable when you can hardly feel them!

I can use ultrasound. In my anaesthetic role I used to use this a lot. I can use ultrasound to diagnose aesthetic complications, but also to do targeted filler dissolving, either electively or in an emergency, when a Doppler (assessment of blood flow) is very useful.

There are a lot of soft skills I would deploy to put people at ease on labour ward. An emergency Caesarian or having a Huge needle put in your back for pain relief (while contracting) is one of the most stressful things a mother will go through. Being able to make someone laugh at the same time is one of my specialties 😆

Thank you for being along for the ride and letting me share my journey with you!

Understanding the ageing process and how this manifests anatomically is crucial to delivering effective treatments.

We don’t just see lines and treat them, we have to address the reason they’ve appeared. This will require an assessment of tissue quality, including skin, muscle, fat and bone.

Collagen and elastin are key proteins which decrease as we age and this results in skin laxity. Stimulating the production of these proteins requires multiple treatments which build up over time; it’s absolutely not a quick fix. Nurturing the whole ecosystem of the face however will result in much more natural results.
