Happy International Dog Day! ๐Ÿพ

If youโ€™ve got a dog, you already have one very enthusiastic reason to get up, get outside and keep moving every day.

Those regular walks are good for us too, helping us stay active, keep our joints moving and spend some valuable time outdoors. And unlike a gym session, thereโ€™s usually someone waiting by the door to make sure we donโ€™t skip it!

But when knee, hip, back, foot or ankle pain starts making those walks uncomfortable, itโ€™s easy to gradually walk a little less or avoid the longer routes you used to enjoy.

If aches or pains are getting between you and your daily dog walk, donโ€™t assume you simply have to put up with them. Our physiotherapy team can assess whatโ€™s causing the problem and help you get back to walking more comfortably.

Of course, some dogs take their interest in exercise a little further...

Hereโ€™s Zoeโ€™s daughter Emily with Dottie, who appears to be checking for perfect hip alignment during the clam! Itโ€™s a great post-run strengthener for the glutes, and clearly no repetition is getting past Dottieโ€™s watchful eye. ๐Ÿถ

Weโ€™d love to see how your dog keeps you active too. Share a photo in the comments and introduce them to us!

What does upper body strength actually help with?

Not lifting weights in the gym.

More often, itโ€™s the little things that make summer enjoyable.

Carrying the shopping back from the supermarket before friends come round for a barbecue.

Lifting grandchildren up for a cuddle or onto your shoulders to watch a show.

Moving sun loungers around the garden.

Carrying suitcases upstairs after arriving home from holiday.

Even maintaining good posture after a long journey.

These are the moments that really matter.

Building upper body strength can make everyday tasks feel easier, improve your posture and help you stay active doing the things you love.

Weโ€™ve put together a free 10-minute resistance band upper body workout thatโ€™s easy to follow and can be done almost anywhere.

If youโ€™d like extra support, whether through physiotherapy or one of our friendly Pilates classes, weโ€™d love to help.

Enjoy the Festival, Not the Aches!

Festival season is one of the best parts of summer.

Whether you're heading to a local music festival or spending the weekend dancing with friends, it's easy to forget just how much your body is doing.

Hours on your feet, uneven ground, carrying camping gear and plenty of walking can all take their toll on your feet, ankles and back.

A little preparation before you go can make all the difference.
Wearing supportive footwear, practising a few simple balance exercises and stretching your back afterwards can help you stay comfortable for longer.

We've already shared some easy balance and back exercise videos on our YouTube channel, so if you've got a festival coming up they're well worth a look. See the link in the comments/here: https://www.youtube.com//videos

If aches and pains are stopping you enjoying the things you love this summer, our physiotherapy team is here to help.

Enjoy the music, make some great memories and look after your body along the way.

Summer is a great time to get outside and enjoy a walk, whether that's around the local park, exploring somewhere new on holiday, or simply taking advantage of the longer evenings.

We recently listened to a fascinating podcast from Dr Rangan Chatterjee featuring movement specialist Dr Courtney Conley, who explains why walking is one of the most powerful things we can do for our health.

One of the messages that really stood out was that walking doesn't have to be extreme to make a difference. In fact, adding just a little more movement each day can have a positive impact on your physical health, brain health and long-term wellbeing.

The episode also explores something we see regularly in clinic, how foot problems, aches and pains can gradually stop people from walking as much as they'd like.

Whether it's heel pain, Achilles discomfort, knee pain, hip pain or back pain, many people start avoiding walks because they're worried they'll make things worse.

In reality, the right advice, treatment and exercises can often help you stay active and keep enjoying the benefits that walking brings.

If pain is limiting how far you can walk, or stopping you from getting out and about altogether, our physiotherapy team can help identify the cause and support you back to comfortable movement.

When people hear the word Pilates, they often think of fitness classes.

But for many of our clients, Pilates is about so much more than exercise.

Clinical Pilates can help improve posture, balance, flexibility, strength and body awareness. It's often used alongside physiotherapy to support recovery from injury, manage ongoing aches and pains, and help people stay active and confident.

During August, we'll be running Pay As You Go Pilates classes, making it a great time to give Pilates a try.

If you're new to Pilates, August is the perfect opportunity to arrange a 1:1 assessment and take advantage of our 5 class vouchers for ยฃ75, helping you get ready for the next block of classes in September when we are looking forward to welcoming our new Pilates instructor, Jess Blandford, ahead of our September class programme.

Your health is our priority, and we're here to support you every step of the way.

One for those who play Crown Green Bowling.

A smooth, controlled delivery isn't just about accuracy, it's also about protecting your body.

Every time you bowl, you're asking your hips, knees, ankles and back to work together to maintain balance, control and stability.
Over time, poor technique or reduced strength can place extra strain on these areas and contribute to discomfort.

In our latest video, we look at some simple tips to help improve your bowling delivery, including:
โœ” Balance and stability
โœ” Lunge control
โœ” Good alignment
โœ” Strength and mobility

Small improvements can make a big difference, not only to your performance but also to your comfort on the green.

If knee, hip or back pain is affecting your bowling, our physiotherapy team can help identify the cause and get you back to enjoying the game.

Unlike the classic film, your summer journey doesn't have to end with aches, pains and feeling like you've been folded into a suitcase.

Whether you're heading off by plane, train or car, spending hours sitting in the same position can leave your back, neck and joints feeling stiff before you've even reached your destination.

A few simple habits can help:
โœ” Get up and move around regularly where possible
โœ” Use a small cushion or lumbar support for your lower back
โœ” Change position frequently rather than sitting still for long periods
โœ” Gently stretch your neck, shoulders and ankles during your journey

Many people assume discomfort is just part of travelling, but it doesn't have to be.

If back pain, neck stiffness or joint aches are making travel less enjoyable, our physiotherapy team can help identify the cause and get you moving more comfortably.

After all, holidays should create memories, not back pain.

๐Ÿ’š Looking after your wellbeing doesn't have to be complicated.

When people think about wellbeing, they often think about major lifestyle changes.

But sometimes it's the simple things that make the biggest difference.

A walk outdoors. A Pilates class. Stretching between meetings. Taking a few minutes to move your body after a long day.

Movement can help improve energy levels, reduce stress, support better sleep and boost overall wellbeing.

This World Wellbeing Week, why not make time for a little more movement, whatever that looks like for you?

Your health is our priority, and we're here to support you every step of the way.
