My children are nearly all grown up, my youngest is 17.

I have loved bringing them all up and watching their lives develop, and they will always be my number 1.

But now I have time to do things for me, so I want to make sure that I have all of the foundations of health working for me.

I will need lots of energy for everything I have on my goals list.

It’s definitely not a time to slow down for me.

Anxiety and overwhelm can feel greater in midlife.

HeartMath is a breathing technique which creates coherence, once your breathing is deep and regular messages get sent out to the rest of your body that all is well, helping to calm your nervous system.

It uses an app and a gadget which you clip onto your ear.

Personally I find it harder to meditate so watching the app helps me stay focused.

Over the last few years I have practiced 1017 times.

I am also a HeartMath certified coach, as I know it can help my clients too.

I aim to do 10 minutes a day and I can tell if I have gone a few without doing a session.

My quick shop…

We needed a very quick dinner this evening as I like to eat by 8.30 at the very latest as it gives my gut a chance to digest any food before sleeping- ideally I would say 7.30 but sometimes that just doesn’t happen.

Getting outside in nature can help you to feel more relaxed after a busy day.

Low level stress may be linked to an increased risk of illness.

We need to break these stress cycles with things that make us feel good.

Choose your step for this week.

Commit to it.

It may seem small but taking one step and doing it consistently is better than choosing 10 things at once and doing those occasionally.

I love to be healthy but sometimes I enjoy things which may not be so good for me., you don’t have to be perfect.

Today is such a day.

I walked with the dogs to see Mark finish the marathon, and when we were walking back he started to feel light headed.

So we stopped half way and got a drink, we also decided to eat.

He was having a burger and chips, so I did too.

Not something I would normally have but today sitting in the sun by the lake it was very enjoyable 😋.

It’s important to make healthy choices but it’s also important to enjoy your life.

It’s all about balance.

I knew my shoulders were weak, but I didn’t realise how weak until I started in the gym.

I couldn’t move the shoulder press at all, it was as if it was glued together.

But I have kept showing up, not every day, but consistently.

Today I can lift 5kg on each side and do sets of 8. (Nearly 3 times 😂).

It goes to show you just have to start.

My goal is to be able to pull myself up - that will take a bit more work.

It maybe a small step but I am quite proud of my progress 💪.
