I started cold water swimming in 2020, and wow, how I wish I had started earlier!
Apart from it being a wonderful thing to do, it helped me to learn to be brave with new things. I’m sure over time it has helped with anxiety too. As I get in the water, I am so busy focusing on the water temperature (usually cold!), and trying not to fall over, other thoughts and worries fade into the background. As I am swimming, I am controlling and steadying my breath, and looking at the scenery around me (usually the weather is changing, trees are moving, birds flying), and I am calmer.
I never regret a swim, and always feel energised and proud of myself afterwards.
I’ve been in Wasdale recently and had a very atmospheric, rainy swim in Wastwater!

No matter what is going on in my life, I read from my latest book every day. Whether I’m home or away, journeying or in bed, stressed or relaxed - happy or sad, my books are my constant. I find it very grounding.
I use my local library all the time - , but also buy from Fred's Bookshop and , which I set up a few years ago now.
I use to record my reading journal, and it’s interesting to see the types of books I go for! I set myself a challenge of reading 26 books in 2026… going good so far.
Last picture is my current and next read.
Find time to read! 📚

Back on a (kind of) even keel… the last few months have been full of change, stresses, and life defining points. Child doing exams / leaving school and we moved house… Last week I went on a little break and it marked the end of the period I think. Now I feel I can focus on normal things again. And that feels nice.
