With this year's Badwater 135 just around the corner, it feels like the perfect time to look back at one of the most incredible experiences I've ever been part of.
Last year I had the privilege of crewing my good friend Ali Young as she took on the world's toughest foot race—135 miles across Death Valley in extreme heat, with the three brutal climbs finishing at 8,400ft at Whitney Portal.
I've watched and crewed Ali in races for 9 years, but seeing first-hand what she endured out there gave me an even greater appreciation of her determination, resilience and sheer grit. It was inspiring, exhausting, emotional... and unforgettable.
This video shows what it really takes to tackle Badwater 135, from both the runner's and the crew's perspective. As crew, we conducted 67 crew stops for Ali. By the end of the race Al and I had been awake for about 46 hours. Ali ran, moved, walked, climbed for 29 of those hours. Robbie ran about 40 miles with Ali through the worst of the heat. It pushed all of us to our limits. But we loved every minute.
Good luck to everyone lining up on the start line next week. You're about to take on something truly extraordinary.
