Kindness is everything 🩵💛

Hello. Hope you’re ok wherever you are. I’ve had some very moving messages about this drawing so I thought I’d post it. I hope you have a good weekend. It’s finally stopped raining here..

A client recently asked, “I’ve heard about sitting with feelings, but what does that actually mean? How do I sit with feelings I don’t like?”

We talked about how the instinct is often to push them away, fix them, or pretend they’re not there. But perhaps sitting with them isn’t about liking them. Instead, it may begin with simply noticing, “This is here right now.”

We reflected on how emotions are like waves: they rise, they peak, and they pass.

That part of our conversation stayed with me, and I wanted to share it. Amid the jargon, it’s easy to lose sight of these simple truths, and I hope this might help someone else. 🩵💛

Michelangelo believed that David was already within the marble – he simply chipped away everything that wasn’t him.

Perhaps counselling can be a little like that.
Life can cover us with worry, expectations, hurt, and self-doubt until we lose sight of who we really are. Counselling isn’t about becoming someone new or fixing what’s broken. It’s about gently peeling back the layers and reconnecting with yourself.

The person you’re looking for has been within you all along 🩵💛

Looking after your mental health and wellbeing as you prepare for exams is just as important as revision 🧠

Finding the right balance looks different for everyone, whether it's getting outside, chatting with friends, or even just getting a good night's sleep: there's no 'one way' to look after your mind.

🩵Sleep is so important for our mental and emotional wellbeing💛

Some many people struggle with sleep when they’re stressed, anxious, emotionally drained, or simply trying to juggle too much at once.

A few gentle reminders that may help

🩵Try to slow things down before bedtime

💛Give yourself a break from screens where possible

🩵Be mindful of caffeine later in the day

💛Create small calming routines in the evening

🩵Read a few pages of a book instead of scrolling

💛Listen to calming music or a meditation

🩵Keep your room cool, cosy, and comfortable

💛Try to wake up at a similar time each morning

🩵Fresh air and movement during the day can also help improve sleep

💛🩵 SLEEP MATTERS 🩵💛

Life can feel incredibly busy sometimes.
Between work, family responsibilities, relationships, and trying to keep up with everyday life, it’s easy to find yourself constantly “on” and rarely getting a moment to truly rest.

Many people I work with tell me they feel exhausted, overwhelmed, or guilty for slowing down — as though they should always be doing more. But the truth is, we were never meant to function at full capacity all of the time.

Work-life balance doesn’t have to mean having everything perfectly organised. It’s more about noticing when your mind and body are asking for rest, support, or space to breathe.

A few gentle reminders:
💛 You are allowed to take breaks
💛 Rest is productive too
💛 Setting boundaries is healthy, not selfish
💛 You do not need to carry everything alone
💛 Small moments of self-care really do matter

Sometimes balance looks like saying no.
Sometimes it’s switching your phone off earlier.
Sometimes it’s simply giving yourself permission to slow down without guilt.

If you’ve been feeling emotionally drained or stretched too thin lately, counselling can offer a supportive space to pause, reflect, and take care of yourself too.

Be kind to yourself — you deserve the same care you give to everyone else. 💛🩵

I’ve been thinking a lot about a theme that has been emerging for some clients, some friends (and for me too) — what it means to stop people pleasing, and how hard that can feel. Especially when you start to say no.

Not a loud no.
Not an angry no. ( and this can be hard if you feel this way on the inside )
Just a quiet, considered, this is what I need kind of no.

And somehow… it isn’t heard.

It gets softened.
Questioned.
Pushed past.
Or met with disappointment that makes you want to take it back.

So you find yourself explaining.
Over-explaining.
Trying to make your no more acceptable, more understandable, easier for someone else to hold.

And before you know it… your no starts to sound like a maybe.
Or even a yes.

There’s something really tender in that place.
Because it’s not about being difficult or unkind — it’s often about caring deeply. About not wanting to hurt, let down, or lose connection.

But somewhere along the way, your own needs get quieter.
Harder to hear.
Easier to override.

Learning to say no isn’t just about the word itself.
It’s about believing you’re allowed to have a boundary, even if it isn’t received well.
Even if it disappoints.
Even if it isn’t understood.

And sometimes… people won’t hear you straight away.

Not because you’re unclear.
But because they’re used to a different version of you.

That doesn’t mean your no is wrong.
It doesn’t mean you have to make it softer, smaller, or easier to accept.

It just means something is shifting.

I once heard a wise piece of advice:
you can live with some short-term discomfort, or long-term resentment — you get to choose.

And maybe the work isn’t to make your no more palatable…
But to stay with it.

Gently.
Steadily.
Without abandoning yourself in the process.

And at The Therapy Rooms, we truly believe that people matter — and that includes you, because you matter too. 🩵💛

I have been thinking about the Therapy Rooms logo, and contemplating a rebranding… but I keep coming back to the door.

I think part of me has been worrying about staying the same in a modern, ever-evolving world. Wondering if I should change, update, move with everything around me.

But then I think about what the door represents.
There’s something about a door that holds so much meaning. The moment before you knock.
The hesitation. The courage it takes to even stand there. The sound of the knock, a quiet way of saying, “Is there anyone there?”
“Is there space for me here?”

And then… the door opens - You’re met, not with judgement, but with warmth. With kindness. With a sense that you don’t have to have it all figured out to come in.

Because it’s never the wrong door.

And maybe, in a world that is always changing, there is something deeply important about things that stay steady. Something about familiarity, about knowing, about a place that feels consistent, safe, and unchanged in the ways that matter.

Things do inevitably change — we update, we redecorate, we recycle, we move, and we grow, both around us and within us. The space may shift, the colours may soften or deepen, the details may evolve with time, but the heart of it doesn’t change- and I don’t want it to, because what matters most was never the walls or the furnishings — it was always the feeling, the intention, the quiet promise of the place behind the door.

A place where people are truly valued — not for what they achieve, but for who they are.
A place where you are held, gently and safely, even in the parts that feel messy or uncertain.
A place where you are cared for with compassion and respect.
A place where growth is possible, at your own pace, in your own way.
A place where you can be nurtured — not rushed, not fixed, but supported as you find your way.

Every person who steps through brings their own story, their own pace, their own reasons for arriving. And here, there is space for all of that.

A space to be heard.
A space to feel safe.
A space to begin, or begin again.

And I still love the blue door 🩵
Calm, steady, quietly reassuring — like it’s always been there, waiting to be knocked upon.

This has never just been a service nor a business….
It’s a place of welcome — where you are met just as you are.
A place of belonging — where you don’t have to earn your place or prove yourself.
A place of sanctuary — somewhere you can exhale, feel safe, and simply be.
A place of steadiness — something you can return to, again and again.
A place of connection — where you are seen, heard, and understood.
A place that holds you, while you find your way forward.

💛A place where people really do matter.💛
