This week is Learning Disability Week.

Through the special education schools and colleges we work in, as well as individual clients, we are proud to support children and adults with learning disabilities.

Speech, language and communication plays a critical role in developing the confidence and skills that those with a learning disability need for day-to-day life. In doing this, we help to support Mencap's vision of people with a learning disability wanting to be seen, heard and valued.

We are delighted to share that Miranda has recently completed her NQP competencies and is now a fully-fledged Speech and Language Therapist!

Entering the speech and language therapy profession as an NQP can be quite daunting, but Miranda has two fantastic supervisors, as well as the support of the wider SLT team. She's already excelling in her adult SLT services role.

June is - are you familiar with Aphasia? There are many different types!

Aphasia is a disorder that affects how someone may communicate. This can impact a person's speech, as well as the way they write and understand both spoken and written language.

Speech and language therapy can support people with Aphasia by relearning and practising language skills or to communicate in alternative ways.

This month, our therapy and training rooms have had a bit of an upgrade with a fresh lick of paint. Goodbye to the green that has been with us for 10 years, and hello to shiny new blue!

We recently held our bi-monthly CPD and team meetings in our freshly decorated training room. Our CPD meetings give our therapists the time to come together to share information, discuss complex cases and gain knowledge from each other. These sessions are highly valuable and play a critical role in our collective continuing professional development.

Our team meeting had a special twist to it this time because our SLT Katy celebrated being with EGT for 15 years and brought in some lovely treats for us all - thanks Katy!
