If you are ever on social media you have noticed the amount of stuff going on about detoxing your lymphatic system and wondered what this is all about - Is it something you should be doing?
The lymphatic system helps take nutrients to the cells in your body and return fluid to the heart. Malfunction can lead to swelling called lymphoedema - eg of a limb after lymph node removal during cancer surgery.
It is not a system that is well understood but this excellent Radio 4 programme helps to demystify it and gives some tips if you have trouble with puffy limbs. (The first few minutes are less relevant - persevere or skip them.) The accompanying programme Doctors' notes is also useful - talking about possible causes and going into more detail.
Spoiler alert - detoxing is not the main thing you need to do if you have difficulties - keep the limb moving and consider compression garments for the limb.

Drs Chris and Xand van Tulleken explore the lymphatic system.

Did you know....?

Too much time spent indoors and intensive near vision activity lead to more children suffering from nearsightedness or myopia.

Taking regular breaks and spending more time outdoors can reduce this risk. Get regular eye checks!

Tomorrow (Wed 13th) the surgery will be closed in the afternoon. (We close on the second Wednesday of most months for essential training and administration.). Our phone system is going to be upgraded tomorrow afternoon and so for part of the afternoon our number (37521400) may be unobtainable and thus you may not hear the message giving you the number to call for urgent matters (things that have developed since the morning and cannot wait until the next day). The number to call in such an eventuality is 07510 924539.
