I GAVE MY 10 YEAR OLD SON CANNABIS OIL WHEN HE HAD STAGE 4 CANCER.
And I know that sentence alone will make some people uncomfortable.
But do you know what made ME uncomfortable?
Watching my child endure chemotherapy.
Watching drugs powerful enough to kill him being pumped into his little body, while being handed a list of potential side effects that included organ damage, infertility, secondary cancers and, yes, DEATH!
Yet somehow, the thing I was supposed to be terrified of was… cannabis?
Make it make sense.
I researched. I asked questions. I challenged everything. And I made the decision to give my son full spectrum cannabis oil. 9500mg per 10mls High THC FECO in coconut oil!
Yes, it made him high.
No, I do not regret it!
That was OUR experience. I am not telling another parent what decision to make for their child.
But I will talk about what happened to mine.
He ate. He slept. He moved. He laughed. He maintained an INCREDIBLE quality of life through circumstances no child should ever have to experience.
And from what I witnessed, cannabis oil played a HUGE role in helping him manage the brutal effects of treatment.
Whilst using cannabis, he didn't experience a single side effect other than hair loss!
We are taught to fear a plant so deeply that some people recoil at the word “cannabis”, yet barely question medicines carrying pages of serious warnings.
Why?
Why have we been conditioned to ask “but what are the dangers of cannabis?” while accepting devastating treatment side effects as simply the price that must be paid?
And before somebody deliberately misunderstands me…
I am NOT saying chemotherapy and cannabis are interchangeable. We also did SO MANY other holistic practices.
I am saying we should be able to have an intelligent, evidence-based conversation about cannabis and supportive cancer care without fear, stigma or judgement shutting the conversation down.
Because when your child has stage 4 cancer, you stop caring about what makes people comfortable.
You care about keeping your child ALIVE!
And I will NEVER apologise for researching every avenue available to support mine. 💚
This was our lived experience.
