Why is education important in medicine? š
As a dermatologist, one of the biggest changes I have seen in medicine is the erosion of education. Its importance seems to be devalued. In dermatology however, I think it is absolutely vital. Even as a consultant of many years, I often reflect back on clinical pearls that were shared with me as a junior doctor; that beside teaching is just so powerful. One of the things I am most proud of at Tarrant Street Clinic is the educational aspect. As a group of doctors we discuss cases everyday. Weāre also looking at better ways to treat patients, always referring to the evidence base. I feel that we as doctors, and our patients of course, benefit from this focus. I think it is a universal feeling of being valued when we are taught, and I think whenever you have been taught well as a doctor you should pay that forward. What are your thoughts on education in medicine?
