❓Not all back pain is the same…

When people say, “I’ve got back pain,” they could be describing very different experiences.

🔹 A stiff, aching lower back after a long drive
🔹 Pain that comes on after lifting something heavy
🔹 Sharp pain with certain movements
🔹 Pain between the shoulder blades from long hours at a desk
🔹 Back discomfort during or after pregnancy
🔹 Ongoing aches that seem to come and go for no obvious reason

and more!

Because back pain can have many different contributing factors, treatment shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all.

Our Osteopaths take the time to understand your particular pain, at your first appointment we have a whole hour, so there’s lots of time to discuss:
✅ When your pain started
✅ What makes it better or worse
✅ How you’re moving - both the area that hurts, and everywhere else
✅ How your pain is affecting you
✅ Your lifestyle, work and hobbies
✅ Your relevant medical history

and more!

A full assessment of your movement and specialist testing including reflexes, strength & sensation testing, blood pressure etc may all be included as appropriate.
Treatment will include hands-on osteopathic techniques, movement advice and exercises where appropriate, all tailored to your individual needs.

If back pain is stopping you from doing the things you enjoy, we’re here to help you understand what’s going on and support your recovery.

🙌 Our Women’s Health Osteopaths use hands-on osteopathic treatment as a central part of your care, alongside a detailed assessment, personalised advice and exercises where appropriate. Every treatment plan is tailored to you, your stage of pregnancy and your symptoms.

💫 You don’t have to simply put up with pelvic pain during pregnancy. If it’s affecting your daily life, we’re here to support you and help you manage it.

⚽ Watching the World Cup? Don’t forget the warm-up!

As we watch the world’s best footballers compete, one thing you’ll notice before every match is that they all warm up. It isn’t just routine – it’s one of the simplest ways to prepare muscles and joints for movement and reduce the risk of injury.

Whether you’re playing football, heading out for a bike ride, playing tennis, tackling the garden or even taking the dog for a long walk, spending just 5 minutes preparing your body can make a real difference.

Try these simple movements before you get started:

🏃 March on the spot for 60 seconds to gently increase your heart rate.

🔄 Hip circles – 10 in each direction to loosen the hips and lower back.

🦵 Leg swings – Hold onto a wall or fence and swing each leg forwards and backwards 10 times to improve hip mobility.

💪 Shoulder rolls and arm circles – 10 forwards and 10 backwards to prepare the upper body, especially before racquet sports or gardening.

The aim isn’t to stretch as far as you can, but to get your joints moving, increase blood flow to your muscles and prepare your body for the activity ahead.

If you’re finding that aches and pains are stopping you enjoying the activities you love, or you’re picking up the same injury time and again, it may be worth finding out why. Osteopathy and Sports Massage can help identify underlying movement restrictions and support your recovery, so you can stay active throughout the summer.

📅 Appointments are available throughout the week – book online or give us a call if you’d like us to help keep you moving www.ashbyosteopath.com 01530440442

☀️ Hot weather can affect more than just your energy levels.

As temperatures rise, it’s common to notice muscle cramps, headaches, fatigue and increased stiffness. While dehydration isn’t usually the direct cause of joint pain, it can affect how your muscles and body function, making you feel less comfortable and less inclined to keep moving.

Movement is one of the best ways to keep joints healthy. When we slow down because we’re feeling tired or dehydrated, joints can become stiffer and everyday aches may feel more noticeable.

During warmer weather, try to:
💧 Drink fluids regularly throughout the day.
🥒 Include water-rich foods such as cucumber, melon, strawberries and tomatoes.
🚶 Keep moving with gentle walks, stretching or swimming.
🌳 Avoid prolonged periods in the heat and take breaks in the shade when you can.

If aches and pains are beginning to limit your daily activities, don’t assume they’re simply part of getting older or something you have to put up with. Osteopathy can help identify what’s contributing to your symptoms and support you in moving more comfortably.

Stay hydrated, keep moving, and enjoy the sunshine safely. ☀️

“It’s just my age.”

👆🏼this is one of the most common things we hear when people come to see us with stiff knees, aching backs, sore shoulders or difficulty getting moving in the morning.

While our bodies naturally change as we get older, pain and stiffness shouldn’t automatically be accepted as an inevitable part of ageing.

Joint changes, reduced activity, muscle weakness and hormonal changes during menopause can all contribute to aches and pains. The challenge is working out what’s causing your symptoms and what can be done about them.

Osteopaths are trained to assess how your whole body moves, helping to identify factors that may be contributing to pain, stiffness or reduced mobility. Treatment, advice and tailored exercises can help improve movement, build confidence and support you in staying active for the things you enjoy most.

Whether it’s gardening, walking the dog, keeping up with grandchildren or simply getting through the day more comfortably, maintaining good movement matters.

Growing older is inevitable. Losing confidence in your movement doesn’t have to be.

If aches, stiffness or reduced mobility are affecting your daily life, why not find out whether osteopathy could help?

🤔 What do you get the dad who already has enough socks, mugs and gadgets?

This Father’s Day, why not give him something he’ll actually use: the chance to move, feel and function better.

Dads spend years looking after everyone else. They’re lifting children, carrying shopping, tackling DIY projects, playing sports, gardening, driving for hours, and often putting their own aches and pains to the bottom of the priority list.

But staying active and healthy isn’t just important for Dad—it’s important for the whole family.

Whether it’s a stiff back, aching shoulders, troublesome knees, or simply feeling less mobile than he used to, osteopathy and sports massage can help keep him doing the things he loves and the activities his family loves doing with him.

The best gift isn’t always something wrapped up in a box. Sometimes it’s helping someone invest in their health, wellbeing and future.

So if you’re stuck for Father’s Day ideas, why not treat Dad to an osteopathy or sports massage appointment?

Because the family adventures, weekend projects, walks, holidays and memories are better when Dad feels his best.

Book him an appointment online at www.ashbyosteopath.com (make sure you don’t put his email or mobile number though, or it will spoil the surprise!)

🤰🏻Pregnancy can bring all sorts of changes to the body — and for many people, that can include back pain, pelvic discomfort, rib pain, neck tension or aching hips.

While some discomfort can be common during pregnancy, it doesn’t always mean you simply have to “put up with it” until birth.

Osteopathy may help support your body through these changes with gentle, tailored treatment aimed at improving mobility, easing muscular tension and helping you stay as comfortable as possible throughout pregnancy. Treatment is always adapted to your stage of pregnancy and your individual needs.

If you’re struggling with pregnancy-related aches and pains, we’re happy to talk through whether osteopathy could be appropriate for you.

🌼 I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but sometimes we need reminding that we are important.

When money feels tight, health is often the first thing we push aside.

You put up with the back pain a bit longer. Ignore the headaches. Hope the shoulder “sorts itself out”.

We completely understand it — life is expensive at the moment.

But your health and wellbeing still matter.

Looking after your body doesn’t have to mean extremes, expensive wellness trends, or perfection. Sometimes it’s simply getting support before a small problem becomes a bigger one.

At Ashby Osteopaths, we’re here to help you keep moving, functioning and feeling more like yourself — because struggling through pain shouldn’t just become “normal”.

Your wellbeing is not a luxury.
