It's mental health awareness week, and the theme this year is anxiety. So, we've asked our founder to share her story about living with generalised anxiety disorder. here's what she has to say!

Anxiety has been a constant companion in my life, taking its toll on me in waves. I didn't get an official diagnosis until my twenties, but living with it has been overwhelming. It affects me both mentally and physically, leaving me in a constant state of jaw-clenching and nervous anticipation, expecting the worst to happen.
On my really tough days, my mind gets hijacked by worries, and it's all I can think about. I end up spacing out, struggling to get anything done. And honestly, all I crave on those bad days is to crawl into bed and escape from the overwhelming fear that holds me hostage.

Describing anxiety to people who don't get it is a challenge. I often say, "Imagine your biggest fear and all the emotions tied to it, but now imagine that feeling sticking around even when the fear itself is gone." That's what living with generalized anxiety disorder is like for me.

But you know what? It has taken a lot of hard work and commitment, but I've managed to find ways to cope and keep my anxiety in check. One thing that has been a game-changer for me is being creative. I've found solace in expressing myself and creating meaningful campaigns that challenge the stigmas and stereotypes surrounding mental health and addiction.

I love that I can channel my own experiences into something that has purpose and the potential to help others.

As the King's coronation approaches, many people are planning to celebrate with street parties and events. While it can be exciting to join in, it's important to remember that not everyone feels comfortable in these situations. Social anxiety can make it hard for some to enjoy large crowds or unfamiliar settings. It's okay to say no to these events if they don't feel right for you. Your mental health and well-being should always come first. If you do choose to participate, try taking breaks and finding a quiet spot to regroup if needed. Let's make sure everyone feels safe and included this coronation season.

Anxiety can be overwhelming, but we have the power to take control of our thoughts and feelings. One effective technique is to use our five senses to ground ourselves in the present moment. Take a deep breath and focus on what you can see, hear, smell, taste, and feel. It's okay to take a moment to yourself when you need it. Remember, you are not alone. We're all in this together.
