A cup of tea is a right, not a privilege!

We funded a small fridge for the Outpatients Reception Team who had nowhere to store their lunches or milk for their beverages. Small cost; big benefit.

I'd also like to take the opportunity to thank the Outpatients Reception Team for all their hard work on the frontline, particularly during all the building work and everyone moving here and there. 💖

Thank you to everyone who tried the Toy Tombola last week. We raised an amazing £194.20!

Special thanks to Carol and Jim (oh look Carol, Kim took a sneaky pic!) who brought the toys, folded the tickets, ran the stall, and made not only money but smiles!

That brings our fundraising fund so far this year to: £5,640.29.

Next event is our Cake Sale on Friday 18 September - not long to go.

A lovely thank you certificate from Emily, in recognition of all the hard work by Kimberley for placing so many work experience students in our Friends Shop.

A snippet from the letter:

We do not have the capability to put our name on messages (Friends of WHH) - and we do not send messages or voicemails to people we do not already know.

Recently I have had two incidences of people who asked why we called them. It appears people are being contacted purporting to be the Friends of WHH - this is a SCAM attempt or possible PHISHING attempt. Please do not engage with them, and report any known numbers to us by DM or directly to https://who-called.co.uk/ or https://reporting.reportfraud.police.uk/.

The people have been to WHH in the past. They both live in Kent. (We do not have access to NHS held personal numbers and, as I say, we do not ever cold call.)

We're sneaking in a new fundraiser for THIS Friday 21 August, a TOY TOMBOLA!

As usual, all funds raised go back to Friends of WHH, from which we buy equipment and fund projects.

Come and support your local hospital! Pop in the Shop and buy an ice cream too!

Kimberley and I visited in South Stour Avenue (near ) today and made/revisited a new friend; the wonderful Carolina!

Ashford Freeshop very kindly donated paperback books for us in the Friends Shop and we look forward to helping each other in the future.

We have limited types of items we can accept as donations for our Shop, but Ashford Freeshop will take all clean, unbroken, and complete household items, clothes, mobility items, toys, etc. You can visit for £1 and take what you need; items are free or give what you can to help keep this shop going.

When we visited they had a huge delivery of free bread and provide a huge range of items for the community and, very importantly, keep things out of landfill. They're open: Monday - Saturday from 10am - 2.30pm.

Things Ashford Freeshop really need at the moment; latex/food prep gloves, wheelchairs, walkers with seats, a lawnmower (on behalf of the Caldecott Foundation . Contact the Freeshop with any questions: https://carolinas.org.uk/

Get your diaries and your whisks out! Next Cake sale is Friday 18 SEPTEMBER!

Our cake sales are consistently one of the most money-raising and joyful events.

Do you have a favourite cake? Mine is Annette's chocolate cup cakes, oh and Maggie's coffee cake, and of course Anne's bread pudding.

Bakers: Thank you for your wonderful work, and effectively donating the cost of your ingredients which, these days, is not cheap.
Buyers: Thank you for your custom. Last Cake Sale made a tasty £832!

A new 'Kim's Box' is released into the care of the Medical Education Centre; it contains emergency period products and hygiene products for all.

From Jemma, who requested this box: "Medical Education Centre is a wellbeing and support hub for our medical students and resident doctors. Many use the centre to step away from the clinical environment for a break, to study, or simply to take some time away from the wards.

Our study area is open 24/7, so having access to emergency period products would be beneficial for anyone who is caught off guard, particularly outside of normal shop opening hours. It would allow doctors and students to access essential products quickly without needing to leave site or interrupt their clinical duties.

As part of our role, we aim to support the wellbeing of our doctors in training and students, and having a Kim's Box available aligns with that commitment."

These boxes are essential to the wellbeing of staff. They are all over the hospital and once supplied, are often refilled by staff themselves. A simple idea, with a huge beneficial impact. They're called Kim's Boxes, because our lovely Kimberley came up with the idea during Covid.

Our Book Sale collected an awesome £201! This is literally hundreds of books sold. Thank you to Jim, Carol, and Joan for running the stall with a smile, and for all the amazing book donators and buyers.

Please continue to donate PAPERBACKS ONLY to the Friends Shop. If you're coming for an appointment or work, drop off one, two, or a bag of books (and buy a replacement?!). Our 50p paperbacks are especially popular.

We have our Book Sale on Friday 24 July and, due to massive demand in the shop, we need EVEN MORE paperbacks for this Friday.

So if you have one or two, or many PAPERBACKS or kids books (clean and unmarked pls), please drop off at the Friends Shop asap. Shop open weekdays 8am-7pm.
