Have you ever tried box breathing?

When we're feeling stressed or anxious, our breathing often becomes quicker and more shallow without us even noticing.

Box breathing is a simple technique that can help slow your breathing and encourage your body to settle.

Here's how to try it:
🫁 Breathe in for 4
⏸️ Hold for 4
🌬️ Breathe out for 4
⏸️ Hold for 4

Repeat this for a minute or two, or for as long as feels comfortable.

The steady rhythm gives your mind something to focus on and can help signal to your nervous system that it's okay to slow down. It won't make life's challenges disappear, but it can help you feel a little calmer and more grounded before responding to them.

If you're feeling overwhelmed today, perhaps take a minute and give it a try.

We often spend so much time checking in with everyone else that we forget to ask ourselves how we're really doing.

So, just for a moment...
How are you feeling today?
What do you need right now?
Have you had a chance to pause, or have you been carrying on without taking a breath?

There isn't a right or wrong answer. The important thing is simply noticing, without judging yourself for whatever comes up.

That small act of checking in can help you respond to yourself with a little more kindness, rather than just pushing through.

Just take a deep breath... and notice.
Not to fix anything.
Not to make the stress disappear.
Just to pause for a moment and notice.

Notice the feeling of the air as you breathe in... and as you breathe out.
Notice your chest rising and falling. The gentle movement of your body. The rhythm of your breath.

Even one mindful breath can be a small reminder to slow down and reconnect with the present moment.

If your mind wanders, that's okay. Gently bring your attention back to your breath, without judgement.

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do for ourselves is simply pause, breathe, and be where we are.

When life feels overwhelming, it's easy to get caught up in anxious thoughts. Your heart races, your breathing changes, and it can feel as though your mind just won't slow down.

One technique that some people find helpful is tapping. It involves gently tapping on different points on your face and upper body while taking slow breaths and noticing how you're feeling.

It might seem a little unusual at first, but many people tell me it helps them feel calmer and more settled when stress starts to build.

It's not about making difficult feelings disappear. It's about giving yourself a moment to pause, reconnect with your body, and remind your nervous system that you're safe in this moment.

Have you ever tried tapping, or is it something you've been curious about?

Today's episode isn't about looking back.

It's about celebrating what's changed.

Martha reflects on her promotion at work, the confidence she's found in herself, learning to trust her own judgement, and opening her heart to a new relationship, something she never imagined she'd feel ready for when she first began therapy.

When we're feeling anxious or overwhelmed, our minds can quickly become caught up in what ifs, worries or racing thoughts.

One gentle way to bring yourself back to the present is to use your senses.

Take a slow breath and notice:
👀 5 things you can see
✋ 4 things you can feel
👂 3 things you can hear
👃 2 things you can smell
👅 1 thing you can taste

There's no right or wrong way to do this. The aim isn't to make difficult feelings disappear, but to gently anchor yourself in the present moment.

Sometimes, when everything feels like too much, simply noticing what's around you can help create a little space to pause, breathe and find your footing again.

Be gentle with yourself.

When we think about gratitude, it's easy to feel as though we should be grateful for the big things. But often it's the small, everyday moments that gently remind us we're okay.

Maybe it was your first sip of coffee this morning. A message from a friend. A patch of sunshine. A quiet moment before the day got busy.

Taking a moment to notice these things isn't about dismissing the difficult parts of life. It's simply about making a little space for what is also there.

So today, I'm wondering...
What's one small thing you're grateful for? 💛

It's easy to move through the day on autopilot, especially when life feels busy or demanding.

Creating more presence doesn't have to mean making big changes. It can begin with something small: taking a slower breath before opening your laptop, noticing the warmth of your cup of tea, pausing for a moment before moving on to the next task, or simply looking up at the sky.

These gentle pauses won't change everything overnight, but they can help us reconnect with ourselves. They remind us that this moment matters too.

If you're wondering where to start, ask yourself: What is one small thing I could do today that would help me feel a little more present?

Sometimes it's the smallest habits, repeated with kindness, that make the biggest difference over time.

What can you add into your day?

In this episode, we’ll reflect on Martha’s journey as a whole, what’s changed, what she’s learned about herself, and what self-acceptance really looks like.

This episode isn’t about becoming a completely different person.

It’s about feeling more comfortable, more grounded, and more at peace within yourself.

I’m honestly thrilled to share that I’ve been recognised in the Global Health & Pharma Mental Health Awards for the 2nd year running.

When I first stepped into the field of mental health, my only real goal was to help people feel less alone in what they were going through. To create a space where women could breathe, feel heard, understood, and supported without judgement.

This past year has stretched me in so many ways growing the practice, supporting trainee therapists, developing wellbeing programmes, balancing life behind the scenes but moments like this remind me why I do what I do.

To every client who has trusted me, every student I’ve coached, every person who quietly reads my posts or listens to the podcast… thank you.

And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this:

You don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to make a meaningful impact. Quiet, compassionate work matters too.
