Last summer, the Government issued an alert to healthcare professionals about the discontinuation of Levemir insulin by pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, by the end of 2026.

While some people will have already switched to an alternative insulin, some may not have done so yet.

If you still take Levemir, and do not already have a diabetes appointment scheduled before the end of November 2026, please contact your diabetes team to arrange this appointment.

They'll be able to ensure your insulin switch is managed safely, while stocks of Levemir are still available.

There's no immediate action required beyond arranging your review.

Practise good hygiene during the Cheoil na hÉireann

Good hand hygiene is your best defence against festival-ruining illnesses like upset stomachs or respiratory illnesses.

• Prioritise soap and water: always use running water and soap when available. If you must use hand sanitizer, carry a high-quality alcohol-based gel, but be aware that it will not protect against gastroenteritis bugs like norovirus.
• Time your washes: wash your hands every time after using the toilet, before preparing or eating food, and after touching any animals.
• Prepare for limited facilities: since toilet blocks can be crowded and may run out of supplies, pack your own biodegradable wet wipes, a personal bottle of soap, and hand sanitizer.
• Avoid touching your face: minimise the chances of transferring germs by avoiding direct contact with your mouth, nose, or any open cuts.
• Cough etiquette: always carry tissues, cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing, bin the tissue immediately, and wash or sanitise your hands.

The HPV vaccine helps prevent HPV related cancers in both boys and girls – these cancers include cervical, a**l, ge***al, head and neck cancers. Since the vaccine was introduced in England, there has been a drop in the number of cases of HPV and it is expected to save hundreds of lives every year.

It’s important to sign your child’s HPV vaccine consent form when you receive it.
