📢Important information for patients – Hartshead North.

The Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) is currently operating temporarily from the Blue Suite at Tameside Hospital. Plans are underway to build a new Urgent Treatment Centre on the current Hartshead North site, which will provide additional space and help improve patient flow through the hospital.

As building work will begin shortly, the Hartshead North Reception will close at the end of August.

Patients attending appointments who arrive at Hartshead North can use the self check-in kiosk to register their arrival or they can visit the Main Outpatients Reception in Hartshead South.

Volunteers will be available to assist patients with using the self check-in kiosk, provide directions to the appropriate department or waiting area, and support patients who require the use of a mobility scooter to get to their appointment.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we make these improvements.

Do you know the signs of heatstroke?🚩

Heat exhaustion does not usually need emergency medical help if you can cool down with plenty of water within 30 minutes. But if it turns into heatstroke, it needs to be treated as an emergency.

Seek immediate medical help if you or someone else shows the following symptoms:
- a very high temperature
- hot skin without sweating
- fast breathing and a fast heartbeat
- confusion and restlessness
- seizure (fit)
- loss of consciousness.

It's very, very hot today!🥵

Make sure you keep yourself safe and look out for others in the warm weather. Heat can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke, and can also make existing conditions worse, including heart problems, breathing problems and other serious illnesses.

Here are some simple steps you can take to protect yourself and others:
1. drink plenty of fluids and avoid too much alcohol
2. keep out of the sun during the hottest part of the day, between 11am and 3pm
3. keep homes as cool as possible by closing curtains and windows in rooms facing the sun, then 4. opening windows later when it is cooler
5. check on older relatives, neighbours and others who may be more vulnerable in hot weather
6. continue taking prescribed medicines and check whether they need to be stored below 25°C or in the fridge.

Two of our senior surgeons, together with a group of friends and colleagues, are set to take on one of Europe's most iconic trekking challenges to raise money for our colorectal cancer services through Tameside and Glossop NHS Charity.

From 22 to 29 August, Mr Solkar, Cancer Lead for Tameside Hospital, and Mr Arora, Consultant Breast Oncoplastic and General Surgeon, will complete the world-renowned Tour du Mont Blanc, tackling six demanding hikes in seven days across France, Italy and Switzerland.

Circling the Mont Blanc massif, the route takes walkers over challenging mountain passes including the Col du Brévent, Col de la Seigne and Col des Fours, with steep ascents, rugged terrain and spectacular alpine scenery providing a true test of endurance.

The challenge follows the group's successful fundraising expedition in August last year, when they climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, raising more than £3,400 for the breast cancer fund.

Having witnessed first-hand the impact colorectal cancer can have on patients and their families, Mr Solkar said the group wanted to combine their passion for adventure with an opportunity to support local healthcare services.

"After taking on Kilimanjaro last year, we were keen to challenge ourselves again while supporting another important cause. As surgeons, we see every day the difference that excellent care, resources and support can make to patients throughout their treatment journey.

"The Tour du Mont Blanc will be physically demanding but knowing that the funds raised will help support colorectal cancer services at Tameside Hospital makes every step worthwhile. We hope our local community will get behind us and help us make a real difference."

If we have your email address, you'll receive an email with a secure link to view your appointment details. If we don't have an email address, we'll send a text message instead.

If you're unable to access your digital appointment letter, or if you have opted out of digital communications, we'll continue to send your appointment details by post. To opt out contact the booking team on 0161 922 6991 or speak to reception staff.

To make sure you receive your appointment information, please ensure we have your current email address and mobile number. Please check your junk/spam folder if you're expecting an appointment notification and can't find it in your inbox.

We are very proud that, with Tameside and Glossop NHS Charity, we have become the first NHS charity and NHS trust in the country to partner with Featherbed Tales, bringing its unique digital storytelling platform to patients receiving care through our Cancer Services.

Featherbed Tales allows patients to capture photographs, videos, personal stories and even their voice, creating treasured keepsakes for loved ones to revisit for years to come.

Cancer affects whole families. Through this charity-funded initiative, patients and those closest to them will have the opportunity to preserve precious memories, share messages of love and create lasting connections during some of life's most challenging moments.

“At first breastfeeding was hard work. I had sore ni***es and I was very tired. But then I was supported by the infant feeding midwife and the maternity staff who showed me how to hold my baby and fix them on the breast properly.
