It’s important to get untreated heartburn under control as a cancer prevention measure.

If your heartburn symptoms continue for three weeks or more, you should speak to your GP practice and get it checked.

Self-medicating with over-the-counter or off-the-shelf products, such as Gaviscon or Rennie, should always be seen as only a short term solution

You're not one piece of a jigsaw, you're an individual! This is why our Social Prescribers work with patients on a 1 to 1 basis to find out about your interests, any barriers that you might have & to signpost you to groups in your local area. The information is tailored to you.

They work with adults from 18 years+, including patients who are working, self employed, looking for work, unable to work for whatever reason and with patients who are retired. Whatever stage you are at in your life, they have groups and activities for you to explore. This service is completely free & the Social Prescribers can signpost you to a range of free & low cost groups & activities.

Yesterday our Social Prescribers Tiff & Jyoti supported a group of Ashton patients to attend the Sister Shed, ladies gardening session, led by Sarah at The Leap Children & Families Centre. The sun was shining as the group updated the planters at the entrance and carried out maintenance to the other pots in the front garden. We finished the session with a brew & a chat about Social Prescribing.

If you'd like to get involved in this ladies-only gardening project, you can come along every Monday at 1pm or contact Sarah on 0161 214 8300 to find out more. There is a suggested donation of £1 when attending. Their address is The Leap Children & Families Centre, Clyde House, Clyde Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL7 0NQ

This week is Loneliness Awareness Week.
It aims to reduce stigma of loneliness, remind people we’re not alone and encourage connection.

One of the recommended NHS ‘5 ways to well-being’ includes connecting with others.

I’m setting you all a challenge today to:
-reach out to someone you’ve not spoken to in a while
-offer someone help or a visit
-reach out to others if you’re feeling more isolated recently
