Building a steady and consistent yoga practice is the best tool I have found for cultivating presence. Yoga is the practice of learning to work with the mind, rather than being carried along by its habitual thoughts and patterns (we call them samskaras in yoga).
Through steady, consistent and dedicated practice, we begin to notice those habits with greater awareness. From that awareness comes choice โ the chance to respond differently, with more kindness, clarity and ease.
In my class and posts this coming week, weโll be exploring the balance between effort and ease through Patanjaliโs teaching of Sthira Sukham Asanamโthat a posture should be both steady and comfortable.
I invite you to explore this concept both on and off the mat.
On the mat, there should be no struggle, sweating or grasping, but instead we should be able to hold a pose steady and comfortably with even breathing, even if the posture is challenging.
Off the mat, balancing both action and rest, striving and surrender, reaching for more while being deeply grateful for all that you already have ๐ซถ๐ป
As we head into a new week, ask yourself:
