🧠 Mind Myth

"Being hard on myself will help me do better."

Have you ever caught yourself thinking...

"I should have done better."

"Why can't I get this right?"

"What's wrong with me?"

Many of us believe that if we're hard on ourselves, we'll be more motivated to change.

But more often than not, constant self-criticism leaves us feeling discouraged rather than determined.

Imagine saying those same words to someone you love.

Would they feel encouraged...

Or defeated?

The way we speak to ourselves matters.

Being kind to yourself isn't about lowering your standards or making excuses.

It's about giving yourself the same compassion and understanding you'd so readily offer someone else.

So perhaps the next time your inner critic appears, pause and ask yourself:

"Would I say this to someone I care about?" 🧡

Landed, for a moment 🌼

There's a moment after all that hovering... when a hoverfly finally lands. Wings still. Just resting on the flower, taking what it needs, in no hurry to be anywhere else.

It's easy to forget that even a creature built for constant motion still needs to land sometimes. Overwhelm has a way of convincing us we're not allowed to do that... that stopping means falling behind, that rest has to be earned first.

But even the busiest, fastest-moving things still need somewhere to land. A moment where nothing is being asked of them.

Maybe that's your reminder today. You don't have to be hovering all the time. You're allowed to land for a while, too.

🧠 Mind Myth

"Confident people are born that way."

Have you ever looked at someone and thought...

"I wish I had their confidence."

It's easy to believe that confidence is something you're either born with or you're not.

But confidence isn't a personality trait.

It's something that grows through experience.

Every time you speak up.

Every time you try something new.

Every time you do something despite feeling nervous.

The biggest myth is that confidence comes first.

In reality, confidence often comes after you've taken the first step.

So perhaps the question isn't...

"When will I feel confident enough?"

Instead, ask yourself...

"What's one small step I could take today?"

Because confidence isn't built by waiting.

It's built by doing. 🧡

🧠 Mind Myth

"If I just had more willpower, I'd be able to change."

Have you ever caught yourself thinking that?

Whether it's smoking, emotional eating, procrastinating or another habit, it's easy to believe that lasting change is simply about trying harder.

But many habits aren't driven by a lack of willpower.

Our brains are incredibly efficient. When something repeatedly brings relief, comfort or familiarity, the brain learns to automate it. Over time, that behaviour can become a habit, even when it no longer helps us.

So perhaps the better question isn't...

"Why can't I stop?"

But...

"What is this habit doing for me?"

Understanding the reason behind a habit doesn't excuse it but it can help explain it.

And when we understand ourselves with curiosity rather than criticism, meaningful change often becomes much more achievable. 🧡

"I'm fine."

It's amazing how often we say those two words...

Even when we're lying awake overthinking.

Even when we're exhausted but can't switch our minds off.

Even when we're carrying so much that we've forgotten what it feels like to truly relax.

Sometimes we get so used to coping that we don't realise we're struggling.

So today, instead of asking someone else how they are...

Ask yourself:

"How am I... really?"

If those words have made you stop and think, remember you don't have to keep carrying it all on your own.

If you're ready to make a change, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about how I can help. 🧡

It's been a while since I've posted here, life and client work have kept me wonderfully busy but I've missed sharing this space.

For anyone new, I'm Marie, an integrative psychotherapist running Asense Therapy. I work with a wide range of issues including anxiety, stress and fears and phobias and I tailor each session to what the person in front of me actually needs.

No two sessions look quite the same, because no two people are the same.

If you've been thinking about therapy for a while but haven't taken the step, or if something specific like a fear or phobia has been holding you back, I'd love to help.

Contact me for a free no obligation initial chat. You can message me here or visit www.asensetherapy.co.uk

Feeling constantly drained even when everything looks "fine" on the outside? You're not alone. Our latest blog explores emotional exhaustion - what it looks like, why it happens, and gentle steps to begin recovering. Read more and give yourself permission to rest:

There are times in life when everything can look "fine" from the outside yet internally you feel completely drained. Even small tasks begin to feel overwhelming. Sunday has a feeling that no other day has.

The slower pace, the different light, the way time could feel just a little more yours.

And yet it's so easy to let it slip away - already thinking about the week ahead.

So here's your reminder - whatever can wait, let it wait. Just for today. 😊

Do something just for you. Even if it's small.

Find your moment and make it count.

Happy Sunday 💛

If you’re used to feeling anxious a lot of the time…

You don’t have to keep managing it all on your own.

The overthinking,
the constant mental noise,
the feeling of never quite switching off.

It can become so familiar that it just feels like part of who you are.

But it isn’t.

These are patterns that can be understood, worked through,
and changed.

With the right support, things can feel calmer, clearer,
and much more in your control.

If you’re ready for that shift, you’re very welcome to get in touch.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 and I didn't want to let it pass without saying something. 💛

This year's theme is Action and I think that's so important. Because awareness alone isn't enough. Real change happens when we take action, however small that action might be.

Mental health affects every single one of us. Around 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health challenge at some point in their life. That could be anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, or simply feeling like you've lost your way.

Yet so many people still struggle in silence, unsure whether what they're feeling is 'bad enough' to ask for help, or not knowing where to turn.

So this week I want to use my platform to remind you:

✅ Your mental health matters
✅ You don't have to cope alone
✅ Asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness
✅ Help is out there and for many people it can make a real difference

If you'd ever like to explore how therapy could help you, I'm here for a free, no-obligation chat.
