Our annual Moonlit Walk event is approaching fast and we need your help!

On 2 October, hundreds of people will be walking through Cobtree Manor Park to support their local hospice, and we need volunteers to help make the night run smoothly.

On the night, we'll need help with things like:
🔦 Marshalling checkpoints, to keep walkers safe and on route
✍️ Signing walkers in and out, welcoming them at the start and celebrating them at the finish
👕 Manning the merchandise and refreshments stall
🌟 Being a friendly face along the route, to cheer people on and lend a hand wherever needed

It's a brilliant evening to be part of, you'll meet new people, be outdoors under the stars, and play a key role in making sure the night goes off without a hitch for everyone taking part.

Can you spare a few hours to help us out?

Angus Hart recently took on the incredible challenge of cycling 209 miles through the Peak District, in memory of his partner Mary's mum, Leanne.

Throughout the ride, Angus had brilliant support from friends and family cheering him on every step of the way. Thanks to their generosity, an amazing £1,045 was raised for Heart of Kent Hospice.

Angus told us: "It was very difficult, but I feel incredibly accomplished and proud that everyone supported me and showed such incredible generosity with their donations."

A huge thank you to Angus for such an amazing achievement, and to everyone who cheered him on and donated along the way!

We are 35 this year, and we are making a book about the hospice’s history and the people who built it. It will include photographs from our archive, taken from about 1987 onwards — at fundraising events, at work, and around the hospice.

Most were in the local paper at the time, or in our annual reports and marketing materials. If you worked or volunteered here in those years, you may be in one of them. A small number of photographs show patients or their families, and we have only used those which were previously used in the press or official marketing materials. The photos span the last 37 years and we no longer have contact details for most of the people in these photographs, which is why we are asking this way.

If you would rather not be included, please tell us by Tuesday 8 September 2026 and we will take the photograph out. You do not need to give a reason. We are not able to show you the wider collection, or to discuss other people who appear in it. You will be asked to provide photographs of yourself, or those you wish to discuss, taken around the same period of time and colleagues will try to identify if you appear in any photographs. To read the full details and how to contact us, please visit: https://www.hokh.org/photographs-in-our-35th-anniversary-book/

A huge, huge thank you to our corporate supporters Evolution Strength and Fitness, who took on a truck pull fundraiser and raised an incredible £13,164 for Heart of Kent Hospice!

They told us:
"The Heart of Kent Hospice means a lot to us as we and other members of the gym have had friends and family members, young and old, who have received end of life care there. It is an important and valuable asset in the local community and beyond. We feel privileged to be able to support them and hope others will do the same."

We are completely overwhelmed by this amazing total, and so grateful for the incredible effort everyone at Evolution Fitness put in to achieve it. This support will make a real difference to patients and loved ones across our community.

For many older people, loneliness creeps in quietly - after retirement, bereavement, or just not getting out as much. And it's not just emotional: loneliness in later life is linked to higher risks of dementia, low mood and poor health.

This , we're celebrating our Compassionate Neighbours. They're volunteers who bring regular company and connection to people who need it most.

💛 Know someone who'd benefit, or want to volunteer?
