A lot of us assume our next of kin can step in if something happens. The reality might surprise you…
Myth: “My next of kin can make decisions for me.”
Fact: They can’t - not without a Power of Attorney. Even a spouse or civil partner has no automatic legal right to make decisions about your care or finances.
By setting up a Power of Attorney, you choose who can act for you if you’re unable to. It ensures someone you trust has the legal authority to make decisions that reflect your wishes about your care, welfare, and/or finances.

What is a Power of Attorney?

A Power of Attorney is a legal document that lets you choose someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you become unable to do so. It must be arranged while you still have capacity and only takes effect once it has been registered.

There are three types of Power of Attorney:
• Welfare Power of Attorney - covers decisions about your care, health, and daily living if you lose capacity.
• Continuing Power of Attorney - covers decisions about your money, property, and financial affairs.
• Combined Continuing and Welfare Power of Attorney - includes both welfare and financial powers in a single document, allowing your chosen person (or people) to manage all agreed areas of your care and finances.

With temperatures soaring, we wanted to share some important safety information on how to manage if you find yourself in trouble the water from the RNLI.

Even if the water doesn't seem that deep, don't let it fool you! The water is very cold, and there may be waterbourne disease and harmful debris underwater you can't see. Not to mention the boats that may not see you in front of them.
