Due to the huge interest in our last post on W sitting, I’ve created a more in-depth version to help you better understand what’s really going on.

So many parents are told to “stop” W sitting without any real explanation… but the truth is, it’s often a child’s way of finding stability when their body needs it. Sometimes it’s simply a comfortable position. Other times, it can give us gentle clues about core strength, balance, or coordination.

This deeper dive walks you through when it’s something to just notice… and when it might be worth a closer look, without fear or blame.

Because understanding always supports children better than correction alone.

Just brilliant!

At just 16 years old, a British student turned a simple school assignment into a life-changing invention. In 2006, Ruth Amos created StairSteady, a smart mechanical aid that helps people move up and down stairs more safely. Instead of a complex or expensive system, her idea focused on a sturdy handrail with a sliding grip that moves smoothly when guided by the hand but instantly locks in place when weight is applied—giving users reliable support exactly when they need it.

StairSteady quickly stood out for its real-world impact. It offered a practical, budget-friendly option for seniors, people with disabilities, and anyone recovering from injury who wanted to stay independent at home. Without major construction or bulky equipment, families could make staircases safer and significantly lower the risk of falls, one of the biggest safety concerns for older adults.

Her innovation earned national recognition, including the Young Engineer for Britain award. Since then, Ruth Amos has continued to make waves by encouraging curiosity and creativity in young minds. She later co-founded the educational platform Kids Invent Stuff, using hands-on experiments and fun challenges to inspire kids—especially girls—to explore science, engineering, and invention with confidence.

Buying the correct footwear is very important for toddlers and children as the foot is a complicated part of the body. The foot is soft and pliable from birth and if the wrong footwear is worn for prolonged periods of time it may cause damage and lead to problems later in life.
