Meet the Team.
Our final introduction is to the baby of our team, Emmalee.
Emmalee started with us as a Saturday assistant whilst still at school. She grew up on the Westside before moving and now lives in Vatisker.
When working as a Saturday assistant I noticed two qualities that were pretty unusual in youngsters. A genuine happy cheery nature reflected in the way she would greet customers and a willingness to help others. When she started working with us she also volunteered every Saturday afternoon in the Red Cross charity shop in town ( and still does ). I was impressed with this commitment to help others without wanting financial gain.
We can train staff to carry out many roles, but it's pretty difficult to change someone's character. So, when it came time for Emmalee to leave school I wanted to employ her full-time.
I'm happy that she agreed as she has developed into a very valuable team member.
She is responsible for all the MAR sheets for Bethesda, monthly ordering calculating stock required and price comparison as well as being the computer whizzkid!
Also a considerable help to myself helping me out as I slow with age!
Living a stones throw from the sea she enjoys walking down to Vatisker beach, collecting sea glass and sewing. Currently learning to drive and hopefully will pass her test soon 🀞.

Emergency Prescriptions & Medication.

Given the recent delays that Broadbay are experiencing due to their system upgrade, we'd like to highlight that your local regular pharmacy can help you in addition to our other roles.
If you have completely run out of regular repeat medication please speak to us as pharmacists can urgently dispense an emergency supply of your medicines.
There are some restrictions as to what we can prescribe on a CPUS (Community Pharmacy Urgent Script), but please give us a call and never be without your medication.

Meet the Team.
Maryann is the quiet one on our team. Her role is predominantly assembly of dosette boxes. She admits to preferring this routine. I guess that you could describe her as our unsung hero due to the volume of work she does unseen behind the scenes.
We now prepare boxes for 110 people. From New Tolsta to Portnaguran, Ranish to Carloway and even 15 sent monthly down to Benbecula . These boxes make a huge difference to patients. They remove the stress and worry of ordering and taking medication on time, improving compliance and reducing medication errors.
I'm probably guilty of increasing the girls workload as whenever someone asks about the possibility of getting a box I always say yes. This is because I appreciate the value to each patient, but it's then the girls that have to do the work!!
I only realised how quiet Maryann really is when I mentioned writing this and asked what she does in her spare time.....only for her to tell me that she edits books and trains dogs! It's amazing the range of talents that folk have.
When chatting about it she says that all require similar qualities that suit her nature. Patience, discipline and following procedures (and not having people interupting you!) .

Meet the Team.
Donnie, our delivery driver joined us in 2022. He was born in Inverness and grew up in Skye and in Scalpay, Harris.
He subsequently joined the Northern Constabulary where he enjoyed a 30yr career.
It was during a spell working in Glencoe that he developed a head for heights and took up hill walking. This hobby progressed so much that it culminated in hiking Kilimanjaro . This is Africa's highest mountain standing just below 20,000ft. To put this in perspective it's like walking the equivalent of Ben Nevis for 5 days in a row where the air gets progressively thinner each day!!
A huge achievement πŸ‘πŸ‘.
After retirement in 2019 he felt that he needed something extra and joined us in 2022. He said that those years, which included the covid lock downs had been quite challenging and now describes his role as a very satisfying and rewarding occupation.
I've been very impressed by Donnie's attitude at putting patients first before himself. We regularly get emailed prescriptions to us and he always is happy to head back out after his shift to ensure the patient recieves the medication as soon as possible. This is especially important with antibiotics and painkillers where earlier treatment is so valuable. I remember on one occasion he delivered to Broadbay View. The patient was shocked, saying the GP was just on the phone 20mins ago!. This was pretty exceptional.... so please don't everyone expect this!!
Donnie is extremely reliable, which gives us confidence and also has given me feeback on welfare concerns he had. This is so helpful as it's an extra pair of eyes looking out for people.
He also has that unenviable task of having to head out in all weathers when we are all warm and dry inside the shop!

Meet the Team:
I'd like to introduce our team at Back Pharmacy. We are a small Pharmacy with a committed team. There's a lot of work goes on behind the scenes and we'd like to let you know the people that do the work!
Our whole team live within a mile of the shop. Probably pretty unique these days, but I think this encompasses the community spirit that we try to embody.
Lynsay is a 100% Bacach!
Every Pharmacy I've ever worked in has a staff member that effectively runs the shop. That individual who performs a task in about half the time that I could. Specialising in the ordering and preparation of all the meds and paperwork for Ardseillach. Trained and work at Boots for 13yrs, before moving to Superdrug and then to Back Pharmacy 5yrs ago.
Lynsay is also responsible for buying all the gifts for the shop. Those unusual items that I roll my eyes at, thinking who's going to buy this......only for someone to pick it up immediately saying it's so cute and taking 3 of them πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Part of being a manager is identifying areas where people excel, then letting them get on with it( although she is guilty of doing all the buying on my day off, where I don't see how much she's spending!) .
Part of the reason for me moving to Lewis was how impressed I was with the work ethic of the people here. This is Lynsay. That person who appears to be powered by Duracel and just keeps going until the job is finished, then starts the next one.
Our lead dispenser, who leads by example πŸ‘.
