An important update for my clients 🚨

🇬🇧 Gel Nail “Ban” in the UK 🇬🇧

The Facts
• Gel nails are NOT being banned in the UK.
• The change only affects one ingredient called TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide), which is used in some gel nail products to help them cure under UV/LED lamps. 
• The ingredient has been classified as a reproductive toxicant, based mainly on laboratory animal studies using much higher exposures than people would normally experience. 
• As a precaution, the UK is removing TPO from cosmetic products rather than because there is evidence that professionally applied gel nails are causing harm to clients. 

Who does it affect?
• ✔️ Manufacturers
• ✔️ Brands
• ✔️ Suppliers and distributors
• ✔️ Nail technicians who purchase products containing TPO
• ✔️ Home users who buy TPO-containing gel kits

✨ Key dates
• 15 August 2026 Manufacturers can no longer place new TPO-containing cosmetic products on the Great Britain market. 
• 14 February 2027 Suppliers can no longer sell TPO-containing products to professionals, so nail technicians won’t be able to buy new stock containing TPO after this date.

• They already comply with the latest ingredient standards.
• Professional gel manicures remain a safe and popular treatment when quality products are used correctly.
• This regulation is about improving cosmetic ingredient safety and encouraging manufacturers to use newer alternative ingredients, it does not mean gel nails are suddenly dangerous.
