πŸ’œπŸ©΅ September 2026 – Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month πŸ©΅πŸ’œ

This September, we are raising awareness of gynaecological cancers, including cervical, ovarian, womb (endometrial), vulval and vaginal cancers.

Knowing the signs and recognising changes early can help lead to earlier diagnosis and better outcomes.

⚠️ Know the symptoms:

πŸ”Ή Cervical cancer – unusual vaginal bleeding, bleeding after s*x, unusual discharge, pelvic or lower back pain.

πŸ”Ή Ovarian cancer – persistent bloating, feeling full quickly, pelvic pain, needing to wee more often or changes in bowel habits.

πŸ”Ή Womb (endometrial) cancer – bleeding after menopause, bleeding between periods, heavier periods or blood-stained discharge.

πŸ”Ή Vulval cancer – itching, soreness or pain, skin changes, lumps or non-healing sores.

πŸ”Ή Vaginal cancer – unusual bleeding or discharge, pain during s*x or pelvic pain.

πŸ’‘ Remember: many symptoms can be caused by other conditions, but if something doesn’t feel right, it’s important to get checked.

βœ”οΈ Attend cervical screening when invited
βœ”οΈ Know what is normal for you
βœ”οΈ Speak to your GP if you notice any changes

🌈 UK National Inclusion Week | 14th – 20th September

This week is all about celebrating inclusion, diversity, and belonging across our communities, workplaces, and everyday lives.

Inclusion means making sure everyone feels valued, respected, and able to contribute fully β€” regardless of background, identity, ability, or experience.
Let’s take this opportunity to:

🀝 Listen and learn from others
πŸ’¬ Challenge bias and discrimination
🌍 Embrace diversity in all its forms
πŸ’› Create spaces where everyone feels they belong

Small actions can make a big difference in building a more inclusive world.

🌍 World Sepsis Day – 13th September

Today we raise awareness of sepsis, a life-threatening condition that can happen when the body overreacts to an infection.

Sepsis can affect anyone, but early recognition and treatment can save lives. Look out for symptoms such as:

⚠️ Confusion or slurred speech
⚠️ Extreme shivering or muscle pain
⚠️ Not passing urine all day
⚠️ Severe breathlessness
⚠️ β€œI feel like I’m going to die”

If you suspect sepsis, seek medical help immediately β€” every minute counts.
Let’s spread awareness, learn the signs, and help protect lives.

🫁 September is Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month 🫁

Pulmonary fibrosis is a long-term lung condition that causes scarring of the lungs, making it harder to breathe and affecting everyday life. Raising awareness can help people recognise symptoms earlier and access support and treatment sooner. πŸ’™

⚠️ Common signs and symptoms may include:

β€’ Shortness of breath, especially during activity
β€’ A dry, persistent cough
β€’ Feeling tired or weak
β€’ Unexplained weight loss
β€’ Clubbing of the fingers (in some cases)
Living with pulmonary fibrosis can be challenging, but early diagnosis, support and ongoing care can make a real difference.

πŸ’‘ This month, let’s help raise awareness, support those affected, and encourage open conversations about lung health.

✨ Every breath matters. Every story matters. Every step forward brings hope.

At Irwell Medical Practice, we are here to support you. If you have concerns about symptoms or your breathing, please contact us for advice and support.
