Junior Park Run – Stubbylee Park, Bacup

This is a free weekly running event designed specifically for children. It’s held at Stubbylee Park in Bacup, and the aim is to encourage young people to enjoy physical activity in a friendly, relaxed environment.

What the session involves:

🟒The run is 2 kilometres long, which is a manageable distance for children and suitable for all fitness levels.

🟒It’s completely free to take part.

🟒All abilities are welcome – children can run, jog, or even walk the course if they prefer. It’s all about having fun and being active rather than competing.

When it takes place:

πŸ”΄The event is held every Sunday morning at 9am.

πŸ”΄Families usually arrive a little earlier to warm up and get ready.

Who it’s for:

πŸ”΅The session is designed for children aged 4 to 14 years old.

πŸ”΅Younger children can take part as long as they are able to complete the route safely.

πŸ”΅Parents and carers can accompany their children around the course if needed.

Why it’s beneficial:

πŸ‘‰Encourages regular exercise in a fun, supportive setting.

πŸ‘‰Builds confidence and a sense of achievement.

πŸ‘‰Helps develop healthy habits from an early age.

πŸ‘‰Offers a great opportunity for families to get active together and be part of a local community event.

🌍✨ Honouring the past. Celebrating contributions. Building a fairer future together. ✨🌍

🌿 National Clean Air Day – 19th June 🌿

Today is National Clean Air Day, a chance to raise awareness about the importance of clean air for our health and the environment. Air pollution can affect everyone, but it can be particularly harmful for children, older adults, and people with heart or lung conditions.

Breathing cleaner air can help improve our overall health, reduce the risk of respiratory problems, and support a healthier community.

🌱 Small changes can help make a difference:
🚢 Walking or cycling instead of driving when possible
🚌 Using public transport or car sharing
πŸš— Avoiding leaving your car engine idling
🌳 Supporting greener spaces in our communities

By making small changes in our daily lives, we can all help create a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone.

It's Men's Health Week!

And just a reminder, men can get breast cancer too. Know what's normal and if anything changes, make an appointment with the GP.

πŸ’™πŸ‘¨ Men's Health Week 2026 πŸ‘¨πŸ’™

A FREE 10-minute scan could save your life.

Did you know that men aged 65 and over are offered a FREE NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening test?

An AAA is a swelling in the aorta (the main blood vessel that carries blood from your heart through your body). Most people with an AAA have **no symptoms**, which is why screening is so important.

🩺 The scan is:
βœ… Free
βœ… Quick (around 10 minutes)
βœ… Painless
βœ… Performed by ultrasound
βœ… Results given straight away

Who should attend?

πŸ‘¨ Men are automatically invited during the year they turn 65.

πŸ“ž If you're over 65 and have never had your AAA screening, you can still request an appointment.

Risk factors include:

🚬 Smoking or previous smoking
❀️ High blood pressure
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘¦ Family history of AAA
πŸ“ˆ High cholesterol
πŸŽ‚ Being male and over 65

Many men feel completely well before their screening appointment, which is why it's so important not to ignore your invitation.

πŸ’™ Early detection can save lives.

πŸ’™ It could be the most important 10 minutes you ever spend.

If you receive your invitation, please attend your appointment.
