DID YOU KNOW?
NHS Scotland Eye Tests (Free)

Purpose: To check your eye health, detect diseases (glaucoma), and check for vision changes.

What it includes: A thorough eye health assessment and a prescription for glasses if needed.

What it does not include:

It does not include filling out specific, non-clinical forms, such as those for employment, insurance, or general, non-DVLA-required job applications

Contact lenses: anything related to contact lenses is not covered by the NHS. If you make an appointment for anything related to contact lenses (included ones that may be stuck in your eye) a fee is always payable prior to treatment.

If you need forms signed you should ask us for a private appointment and request a quote for the cost of filling out the documentation.

We are closed for eye tests until Tuesday 14th April. Audiology/ear wax appointments will take place as normal on Monday 13th April.

Thanks to all of our lovely patients we are now busier than ever and routine eye tests are fully booked until the end of April.

If you feel you are due an eye test in the coming months, please make sure you get it in the diary as soon as you can, to avoid disappointment.

How well would you say you look after your eyes? Do you take supplements to improve their health and longevity? Do you regularly use artificial tears to keep them hydrated?

Did you know a little over 45% of the population suffer with dry eyes? This figure only includes the patients that have received an actual diagnosis by their optometrist. Many more don't even realise they have it until the eye becomes so irritated and sore that they can't bear it and seek help from their pharmacist or optician.

Patients often think that once they have finished the treatment they are cured. This is absolutely not the case. If you have dry eyes, like dry skin, it's for life!

If you think you are suffering with *symptoms relating to dry eye please reach out to us. We can help. There are lots of treatments available on prescription that can ease your discomfort.

*Symptoms: gritty, watery, nippy, feels like grit in the eye and feels like sometimes a film over eye.

Let’s get Myopia under control

Hi,
As your Optometrist in Balfron Eyecare I am very passionate about myopia control glasses for children.

To prevent your child’s short-sight prescription getting worse as he/she grows I can prescribe and dispense, for you highly researched, evidence based myopia controlled lenses.

To explain the science:

Myopia controlled lenses reduce short sight progression and axial elongation for children compared to normal single-vision lenses. These specialist lenses utilize arrays of lens-lets (little hexagons)to induce peripheral myopic defocus and modulate retinal image contrast, mechanisms shown to inhibit axial (eye length) growth.

Hello all, an important update on our opening hours this week, as our lovely Susan is away. The shop will be open from 9am to 4pm. Susan will be back on Tuesday 25th November.

Should you experience an eye emergency, please consult your local pharmacist in the first instance and get yourself to an Optometrist. Should you need to go to hospital, that is the fastest and most efficient way to be seen by an Ophthalmologist.

Hello all, what lovely weather we have been having. Just a note to let you know we are closed tomorrow for the September weekend. We shall return as normal on Tuesday 30th September. The Audiology team will be back on Monday 6th October 2025. If you were thinking about collecting your glasses tomorrow, please let me know and I will see if there is a safe place we can leave them for your convenience. Otherwise, please collect today or next week. I hope this doesn't cause any inconvenience. Have the loveliest weekend 😊
