People who have every reason to be bitter are sometimes the ones who are still the gentlest.

They know what it feels like to be hurt, disappointed, and let down, but they refuse to pass that pain on to someone else.

That kind of kindness hits differently because you realize they had every excuse to become cold.

They just decided their pain would be something they carried, not something they used to hurt others.
