A very exciting milestone for Menopause NI!

We’ve just completed our very first Menopause ChangeMaker® Champion Training.

One thing I took from this first programme was just how valuable the practical discussions, questions and conversations were. They created space to explore the Champion role, work through real-life scenarios and share ideas about how to bring the learning to life.

A huge thank you to our first Champions for their openness, engagement and contribution - you helped make the training what it was.

With World Menopause Day coming up in October, it feels like a fitting time for our next Champion Training.

It will be delivered over two half-days and limited to just five participants - sometimes, the smaller the number, the better the conversations!

You don't need to have all the answers.

One of the questions I'm asked most often is:

"What if I say the wrong thing?"

The truth is, people rarely expect their manager to solve everything.

They want to feel heard.

They want understanding rather than judgement.

They want to know they don't have to hide what they're experiencing.

Supportive conversations don't begin with expertise.

They begin with curiosity.

"How are you?"

"What would help?"

Sometimes those simple questions make a bigger difference than we realise.

⭐️Retention starts long before someone hands in their resignation.

When an experienced employee leaves, organisations often ask why.

By then, it's usually too late.

The better question is:

What happened long before that resignation letter was written?

Confidence may have been quietly disappearing.

Sleep may have become a struggle.

Concentration may have become harder.

Someone may have started believing they were no longer good enough.

Sometimes people don't leave because they no longer care about their work.

They leave because they no longer recognise themselves.

Understanding that difference could change everything.

If I could go back, I'd ask one question first.

Looking back, I often think I chose the nuclear option.

I resigned.

Today, I wish I'd stopped and asked myself one simple question.

"What's happening to me?"

Not because it would necessarily have changed my decision.

Perhaps I would still have left.

I'll never know.

But at least it would have been an informed decision rather than one driven by confusion and self-doubt.

How many important decisions do we make before we truly understand what's influencing the way we feel?

Knowledge doesn't make decisions for us.
But it gives us choices.

And sometimes, that's exactly what we need.
