Feeling the heat? 🥵 When it’s hot outside, opening the windows might feel like the obvious move, but it can actually make things worse indoors.

✅ Keep windows, curtains and blinds closed during the day
✅ Open windows overnight when temperatures drop
✅ Switch off unused electrical appliances
✅ Spend time in the coolest part of your home
✅ Look out for signs of heat exhaustion, such as dizziness, headache or feeling sick

Public Health Wales has published 12 recommendations to help reduce cardiovascular disease in Wales, building on last year’s Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Plan for Wales: An ABCD Plus approach.

The recommendations which were developed with key stakeholders, set out the priorities for action and implementation, and aim to help partners to embed CVD prevention into planning and delivery across the health and care system.

All young people born between 1st September 2007 to 31st August 2008 are being offered the MenB vaccination for free this summer. 💉☀️

Getting two doses of the MenB vaccine, at least one month apart, helps give you the best protection against serious illnesses like meningitis. Make sure you get both doses. ✅💪

Look out for an invitation letter you'll soon receive by post. 📬

𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 𝗕 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟭𝟳- 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝟴-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀.

More than 8,000 young people born between September 1 2007 and August 31 2008 are being invited to an appointment at one of 25 community vaccination centres across the region later this month, and will be given a second appointment around four weeks later. Two doses of the vaccine are vital to ensure the best possible protection against meningitis B.

People aged 18 to 25 who will begin a university or residential college course for the first time this autumn can also arrange to be vaccinated by contacting our vaccination team from next week. At this time MenB vaccination will be offered to these higher-risk groups only.

Young people who have missed other recommended vaccinations will also be offered the opportunity to catch up at these clinics.

The Welsh Government announced the precautionary vaccination campaign last month, following the MenB outbreak in Kent earlier this year.

From September, RSV vaccination will be offered to people aged 65–74 who are at higher risk of getting seriously ill from the virus. The vaccine is already offered to all adults aged 75 and over.

RSV is a common virus that can lead to serious health problems - such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia - in older people and babies. Each year, it leads to between 700 and 1,000 hospital admissions among over-75s and up to 9,000 GP appointments.

Getting vaccinated not only helps protect individuals from serious illness - it helps ease pressure on GPs and hospitals, particularly during the winter months.

If you’re eligible, take up the offer when invited.

Been for a walk? Check for ticks.

Ticks love long grass and wooded areas - and they’re easy to miss. Some carry Lyme disease, which can cause flu-like symptoms or a red, circular rash.

🧲 If you find one, remove it with tweezers or a tick tool pull slowly and clean the area with soap and watter
👩‍⚕️ See your GP or call NHS 111 if you notice symptoms
🐾 And don’t forget to check your pets too!
