💉 Do travel vaccines last for life? 🌎✈️

Not always!

How long protection lasts depends on the vaccine. Some travel vaccines can provide long-lasting protection after a completed course, while others may require additional doses or boosters.

What you may need can also depend on your destination, previous vaccinations, medical history and the type of trip you’re taking.

Not sure if your previous travel vaccines still provide protection?

👨‍⚕️ At North Down Private, our doctor-led travel clinic can review your vaccination history and travel plans and advise you on the vaccines and boosters that may be recommended for your trip.

✈️ Travelling soon? Get your vaccines checked before you go.

👩‍⚕️ Not everyone fits a tick-box approach 💙

You may have been told (or assumed) that a medical condition, previous diagnosis or medication means that weight-loss treatment isn’t an option for you. However, this isn’t always straightforward, which is why an individual medical assessment is so important. 🩺

Some online weight-management services use set eligibility criteria or screening processes that may mean people with certain medical conditions are unable to proceed further.

✨ At our doctor-led clinic, we take an individual approach.

Rather than making assumptions based on one part of your medical history, our experienced doctors assess each patient personally and consider the whole clinical picture - including your medical history, current health conditions, medications and other relevant factors.

Having a particular medical condition does not necessarily mean you should be automatically excluded from discussing medical weight-management options. Equally, it doesn’t mean that treatment will always be suitable.

👩‍⚕️ Being a doctor-led service means our doctors have the clinical experience to consider your individual circumstances, assess potential risks and determine whether treatment may be appropriate or whether further information, investigations or input from another healthcare professional may be needed first.

💙 Individual assessment. Experienced doctors. Care centred around you.

If you’ve previously been unable to proceed through an online screening process, or you’re unsure whether your medical history may affect your options, get in touch with our team to arrange an individual consultation with one of our doctors. 📩

💬 “Weight-loss medication is cheating.”

It’s something we hear far too often - but let’s think about that for a moment.

❤️ If someone takes medication to manage high blood pressure, we don’t call it cheating.

🩺 If someone is prescribed medication to help manage high cholesterol, we don’t tell them they should have tried harder.

💊 If someone needs medication as part of the treatment of another chronic health condition, we don’t see that as taking the easy way out.

So why should treating obesity be viewed differently?

Obesity is a recognised chronic, complex health condition and it deserves the same compassion and evidence-based medical care as other health conditions.

Weight management medications are licensed medicines. For suitable patients, they may be prescribed following an appropriate medical assessment and used as one part of a comprehensive weight-management plan.

Taking prescribed medication isn’t a lack of willpower.

It isn’t a failure.

And it isn’t “cheating”.

👩‍⚕️ At our doctor-led weight management clinic, we look at the whole picture. Where clinically appropriate, medication can be combined with support around nutrition, lifestyle and sustainable behavioural changes, alongside ongoing medical monitoring.

Medication isn’t suitable for everyone, and no treatment is right for everybody. That’s why proper medical assessment and ongoing clinical support are so important.

💚 Perhaps it’s time we removed the stigma around receiving medical treatment for obesity.

Seeking appropriate healthcare isn’t cheating.

It’s healthcare.

🩺 Blood Testing Available at our Doctor-led Weight Management Clinic

At our doctor-led weight management clinic, we offer optional blood testing for an additional charge, whether you’re just starting your journey or would like to monitor your health along the way.

Tests available include:

🩸 Diabetes screening – blood sugar regulation can influence appetite, energy and weight management.

🦋 Thyroid function – thyroid problems can affect metabolism, energy levels and body weight.

❤️ Lipid profile – checks cholesterol and triglycerides, providing important information about metabolic and cardiovascular health.

Blood test results can give our clinical team a more complete picture of a patient’s health. Where appropriate, results may influence clinical advice, highlight something requiring further assessment, or help guide ongoing monitoring.

📩 Want to know more? Contact our clinic for information about testing and costs.

⚕️ 5 questions to ask before choosing a weight management clinic 🤔

If you’re considering medically supported weight management, choosing the right provider matters.

Weight management medication is still medication. It should be prescribed appropriately, supplied through legitimate channels and supported by proper medical care.

Here are 5 questions worth asking before choosing a clinic:

1️⃣ Who is responsible for my medical care?
Check the qualifications of the clinician assessing and prescribing for you and make sure you know who is overseeing your treatment.

2️⃣ Will I have a genuine medical assessment?
Safe prescribing should involve more than completing a quick form. An appropriate clinical assessment helps determine whether a treatment is suitable and considers relevant medical history, current medication and potential risks.

3️⃣ What follow-up care is provided?
Treatment shouldn’t end when a prescription is issued. Ask how progress, side effects and ongoing suitability are reviewed, and how you can contact the clinic between appointments if needed.

4️⃣ Where does the medication come from?
Ask how medication is prescribed, dispensed and supplied. Medication should come through legitimate, regulated channels with appropriate clinical oversight.

5️⃣ What happens if I experience a problem?
Make sure there is a clear process for getting medical advice if you experience side effects, have concerns or become unwell - and that you know who to contact.

💬 The key question: are you simply being supplied medication or are you receiving ongoing medical care?

At our doctor-led clinic, medical assessment, appropriate prescribing and ongoing clinical support are central to our approach.

Weight-management medications are not suitable for everyone. Treatment decisions should be made following an individual medical assessment and with appropriate clinical supervision.

How does the referral process work?

There are two ways to book:

A referral letter can be provided by a GP, physiotherapist or other healthcare professional with the relevant clinical information.

An appointment can also be booked directly without a referral. The doctor will carry out the necessary assessment as part of the appointment.

💉 Why don’t we increase your dose as quickly as possible?

Because reaching the highest dose is not the goal. 🎯

👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️At our doctor-led weight management clinic, treatment is prescribed and reviewed individually.

When medication is appropriate, we look at:

💚 How you’re responding to treatment
🩺 How well you’re tolerating your current dose
⚖️ Any side effects you may be experiencing
📋 Your wider health and individual circumstances
📈 Whether a dose increase is actually clinically appropriate

A higher dose isn’t automatically a better dose. ⬆️❌

For some people, increasing the dose may be appropriate. For others, staying at their current dose for longer may be the better clinical decision.

💻This can feel different from simply purchasing medication online, where the process may appear focused on ordering the next strength.

With doctor-led care, there’s an important question behind every prescription:

👉 Is changing the dose appropriate for this individual patient?

Our aim isn’t to get everyone to the highest dose as quickly as possible. It’s to provide careful, individualised medical care with ongoing clinical oversight. 🩺💚

Medication is only one part of weight management, and treatment decisions should balance potential benefits, side effects, safety and your individual circumstances.

✨ The goal isn’t the highest dose.
The goal is appropriate, safe and sustainable care.

Prescription medicines are not suitable for everyone. Eligibility and treatment decisions are subject to individual medical assessment.
