Pope's Pilates

Pope's Pilates Find out what and where your Core really is and how to properly activate it. I am Sarah Pope, a chartered physiotherapist and Pilates instructor.

Embrace Pilates from any level of fitness and benefit from Pilates instruction with a chartered physiotherapist and APPI Pilates Instructor. I trained with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) in 2004, and continue my ongoing training and professional development with my APPI membership. I work part-time as an NHS physiotherapist in the community, specialising in working with

older people who have fallen and who have osteoporosis/osteopenia and associated postural changes. I incorporate Pilates principles into my clinical work with patients and teach bone health exercise classes, with a strong focus on the core stabilising muscles. Teaching in a class environment and providing one-to-one, physical guidance and feedback is one of the very best parts of my job! Watching clients improve, week by week is so satisfying and rewarding. Being part of that journey is an absolute privilege.

So, while strength training can help us feel stronger, fitter and more capable, it’s also an investment in our long-term health and independence.

As Pilates instructors, we love helping women build strength and confidence in their bodies — and supporting healthy movement through every stage of life. ❤️

Pilates helps low back pain — and the research keeps proving it! 🙌

A major systematic review and meta-analysis found Pilates significantly improves BOTH pain and function in people with low back pain.

Not just stretching.
Not just “core work.”
Real evidence-based results. đź’Ş

The key? Consistency, good instruction, and exercises tailored to the individual.

Movement really is medicine. ✨

You don’t have to do the hardest version of every exercise.
While pushing yourself to do the most difficult version of each exercise might be beneficial in some workouts, in Pilates, tailoring each exercise to your body and ability level is the key to a great session. (New York Times)

Found this great article about posture and back pain. Read the top tips; pilates, pelvic floor and breath, all things we focus on in our Pilates classes! Happy weekend!

At work and at home, we spend hour after hour sitting, staring at screens or fiddling with our phones – and our hunched, twisted bodies bear the marks. Let’s get things straight again
