Barking and Dagenham Children and Families Health Service The Barking and Dagenham Children and Families Health service delivers the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) in partnership with Barnardo's.

The HCP is a health care programme that is offered to families/carers with children from antenatal to 19 years of age. The health visiting team consist of Health Visitors who are qualified and trained to support children under 5 years and their families with early intervention, preventing and reducing ill health, public health awareness – child safety, immunisations, dental health, healthy eating

and healthy life style . The team consists of community nurses, community nursery nurses and support workers. The team works closely with the children centre staff. Services provided locally are from the antenatal period of 28 weeks of pregnancy to children who are aged under 5 years. The following health reviews are offered:
• Antenatal Visits (28 -32 weeks)
• New Birth Review
• 6-8 Week Health Reviews & support maternal emotional wellbeing
• 8-12 months Heath Review
• 2-2 ½ Years Health Review -
As well as supporting parents with:
• Parenthood and early weeks
• Breast Feeding and Infant Feeding
• Minor Illnesses and accident prevention
• Getting infants and young children ready for school – (behaviour, Speech, language and hearing)
• Healthy Weight for their children

For World Breastfeeding Week 2026, we’re celebrating 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 when it comes to feeding your baby - whether that’s the support network your baby is born into, the support you receive from the healthcare teams around you, or the information that you research during those 3am night feeds.
Every day from 1st August to 7th August, we’ll be posting the feeding journey and celebrating the support available at each stage.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐 – 𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘸 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 - 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶.
It's completely normal to need reassurance while you're getting to know each other. Early support can help resolve small challenges before they become bigger ones.

💜 Our Infant Feeding Team is available during pregnancy if you'd like to find out more about the support available after your baby arrives or discuss any feeding questions you may have.
