🌎Happy World IBD Day🌎

Finally braving it to share my 💩 story and raise IBD awareness...
Inflammatory Bowel Disease(IBD) affects over 10 million people worldwide and includes Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (UC). Pain, bloating, cramping, bleeding, pus, diarrhoea, urgency, constipation, swollen painful joints, night sweats, nausea, weight loss, anxiety and Kidney, Liver and eye damage are some but not all of the symptoms. The cause is unknown, but research points towards a combination of genetics, the environment and an overreaction of the immune system.
I was diagnosed with UC 8 years ago. “You have an incurable disease and have to be on medication for the rest of your life as the risk of bowel cancer or having a colostomy bag is high.” This shook me. Surely there was more to this than taking meds orally and rectally for the rest of my life...
I immediately turned to a complementary approach to health and became a Chinese Medicine and acupuncture practitioner. My golden cure really has been acupuncture and yep I often self treat (needling St25 here👆). Obviously an altered lifestyle and diet has been key too. I get flare ups still but nothing like what I used to. And thankfully I’m no longer living in the fast lane and UC has made me who I am today: a 💯 more determined and empathic practitioner, an advocate for holistic health, a nerd for all things Chinese Medicine and acupuncture and an expert in sh*t.
Here’s to everyone who has dealt with this disease: IV infusions, regular cameras up your butt, puffy faced meds, f***l transplants, boring anti-inflammatory diets, near constant doctors appointments, long call queues with insurance companies, endless embarrassment, yet still brave attempts to battle on. Shout out to all the IBD patients, practitioners and supporters. You raise our collective consciousness and inspire us to keep fighting.

Brain fog? Tiredness? Blocked sinuses? Swollen ankles? All signs of Dampness in Chinese Medicine. I’m resolving Damp here with a📌📌 and recommending a few lifestyle tweaks including cutting out Damp-forming foods such as dairy, sugar and 🍌 a big no no. Never go outside or sleep with wet hair and as hard as it may be, limit over-eating, overthinking and worrying as the Spleen’s ability to transport will be weakened leading to the accumulation of fluids 🤯.
