Repost National Register of Reflexologists (Ireland) 🔬NEW REFLEXOLOGY RESEARCH | 2026

A recent clinical trial explored the effects of foot reflexology on restless legs syndrome (RLS) and sleep quality in people living with multiple sclerosis (MS).

The findings are encouraging, with participants experiencing improvements in restless legs symptoms and sleep quality following the reflexology intervention.

Research like this is important as we continue to build the evidence base around reflexology and its potential role as a complementary approach to supporting wellbeing and symptom management.

An interesting point from the authors: the study recommends that nurses receive reflexology training. This recommendation relates to the potential integration of reflexology into supportive nursing care. It should not be interpreted as suggesting that reflexology is exclusively a nursing intervention or should only be provided by nurses. Professionally trained reflexologists already practise reflexology as a dedicated complementary therapy.

Tony Porter THE BIOELECTRIC MATRIX
The circulation of life

As your fingers and thumbs move over the feet, are you aware of the process that produces the physiological effects of reflexology? In other words, how do the pressures and structural mobilisations performed during a treatment produce a response?
I became aware that each client had an individual response to reflexology, which was based on the tone and texture of their reflexes.

From this, I am able to determine at the initial consultation how a new client would respond to treatment; sometimes I would explain that reflexology would not be effective for them; this, after all, is the purpose of a consultation.
(This does not apply to the type of reflexology, which is more of a pampering or ‘spa’ type, where every client can be treated to induce a relaxation response).

It was after a ‘Road to Damascus’ moment that I realised we need to view reflexology from an electrical standpoint to gain a deeper understanding.
The flow of electrons through the body’s cellular matrix is continuously modulating. The techniques applied, in conjunction with pressure and continuous flexing of the feet and ankles, help amplify the body’s electrical circulation.

‘One could take a fantastic voyage from the farthest Schwann cell output in the big toe, through the spinal cord and into all parts of the brain. Indeed, electrons are making this trip every moment of our lives.’
- Dr Robert Becker.
This is part of an extensive subject, which I shall expand upon in future articles.
