ROM tests 🤸🏼‍♀️

What is ROM?
- Range of Movement

Why do I ask to test your ROM?
- This gives me an indication to what muscles may be causing a restricted range of movement to a joint or tension / pain in certain areas

- It allows me to demonstrate to the client that the massage is having a positive effect on their mobility and reducing that feeling of resistance

How does massage improve ROM?
- Massage increases soft tissue elasticity and breaks down adhesions that restrict motion. This is achieved by increasing tissue temperature and blood flow, which relaxes muscles and allows the muscle fibers and surrounding connective tissues to be stretched and lengthened. Massage also realigns and loosens haphazard collagen fibers, restoring their proper alignment with muscle fibers and further enhancing flexibility and movement!

Below we can see a difference in Megan’s range of movement following her 45 minute full back treatment 💆🏼‍♀️

Things you can’t see post massage… 👀

As much as we can often see the visible effects of a regular massage, such as:

- Improved posture
- Promotion of muscular re-balance
- Erythema
- Lymphatic drainage

Here are some of the things we can’t physically see, but can certainly feel 🤲🏼

Improved circulation: speeds up recovery time from working muscles, and reducing chance of injury occurrence 🏃🏼‍♀️

Improved flexibility: promotes better range of motion by stretching shortened muscle tissues and breaks down adhesions of scar tissue 🤸🏼‍♂️

Encouraged muscle recovery: massage promotes blood and lymph flow which delivers oxygen and nutrients to tired muscles and clear metabolic waste 🥱

Stress reduction: massage promotes the release of endorphins and lowers stress levels / reduces anxiety, especially when the upper back is targeted as this is where people often hold stress / tension 😌

Promotes better sleep: releasing the tension within our muscles creates an overall calmness allowing the body to relax 💤

Improved mental clarity: a reduction in physical discomfort and mental stress can lead to improved concentration and mental clarity 🧠

Just like we water our plants to look after them, make sure you take care of yourself too! 🌱

Whether that’s through exercise, rest, being a social butterfly or just enjoying the peace and quiet 💆🏼‍♀️

Client profile:

My regular client Craig comes monthly for a Full Body sports massage treatment 🤲🏼

Craig trains heavy and often in the gym, including Cross Fit sessions, dog walking and running, all balanced alongside long working hours 👨🏼‍💻

As you can see in the before picture, Craig is visibly holding tension, particularly in his left shoulder, causing misalignment (he’s wonky!)

After the treatment, we managed to achieve the end result, leaving Craig relieved of tension in the muscles and continued work towards restoring alignment.
