Things you should never be embarrassed about, and yes you can read this twice. Asking what a treatment costs, crying in a consultation, or not knowing what anything is called is completely normal in my room. Wanting to look nice for absolutely no occasion is also allowed, and being 52 with no clue what your face shape is, join the club. I see women apologise for their questions, their budgets, their chin hair, their faces, their time, like they are somehow taking up too much space. Meanwhile I have watched a grown man faint at a blood test, so I am keeping perspective for all of us. You do not need a permission slip to want something, or to be curious, or to change your mind halfway through. If any of this sounds like you, message me and we will have a proper chat, no awkwardness required.

Your filler did not vanish in three weeks. What usually happened is that the early swelling settled, and the filler carried on sitting exactly where I placed it. Day three is product plus puffiness, week three is the actual result, and it is often more subtle than you remember. Subtle was the goal, even if your brain got attached to the day three face. If you keep chasing that version, you can end up topping up to match swelling, and that is how people drift into the overfilled look. Give it until week four, take your photos then, and compare properly. Also, please stop judging your results in the car park mirror with a stressed expression and overhead lighting. If you are unsure whether your result has settled as expected, send me a message and I will talk you through what you are seeing.

Things not to say to a menopausal woman. Consider this a public safety announcement from me, your friendly neighbourhood injector who has heard it all in clinic. If you ever find yourself saying, “Is it hot in here or is it just you?”, “You seem tense”, “My mum sailed through it”, or the classic “Have you tried yoga?”, just know each of these carries a custodial sentence in my house. Menopause is funny until it is you at 3am, wide awake, sweaty, and one comment away from losing your last shred of patience. The better lines are simple. “I have opened a window.” “I will handle dinner.” And the eternally correct, “You are right.” Flowers are optional, but I will notice.

I see so many women who have been made to feel dramatic for very real symptoms, and I am always glad when they finally get properly heard. Tag the person who needs this laminated and quietly taped to the kitchen cupboard, and if this stage of life is feeling a bit relentless, drop me a message and we can have a proper chat about what might help.

Is there really salmon DNA in polynucleotides?

Short answer? Yes. Kind of.

Polynucleotides are derived from highly purified DNA fragments, most commonly from salmon or trout. Before you start imagining a fillet of salmon being injected into your face, that's not what's happening.

The DNA is extracted, purified and processed into tiny fragments that are biocompatible with human tissue. In fact, salmon DNA has an incredibly similar structure to our own, which is one of the reasons it's used in regenerative medicine.

So what does it actually do?

Polynucleotides don't fill or freeze. They work by supporting your skin's natural repair processes by helping to improve hydration, elasticity and skin quality over time.

Think regeneration, not transformation.

And no, you won't smell like the fish counter at your local supermarket.

Science can sound strange until you understand it.

Would you try a treatment made from salmon DNA if it meant healthier, stronger-looking skin?

Tell me yes or no in the comments.

Polynucleotides have become one of the more talked about additions to modern skin treatments lately, and I can see why. They are a newer option, so I always think it is worth understanding them properly before deciding if they suit you. In clinic I get lots of questions about what they actually do, who they are for, and whether they can sit alongside things like skincare, skin boosters, lasers, or injectables you have already had. The honest answer is that the right plan depends on your skin, your goals, and your treatment history, which is exactly what your consultation is for. I will talk you through what the treatment involves, what it may support in terms of skin quality, and what sort of results you can realistically expect. If it sounds like something you are curious about, ask me about polynucleotides at your next consultation. I am always happy to chat it through properly, no pressure and no confusing jargon.

SPF is not optional. It is the foundation everything else relies on.
UV exposure happens every day in the UK, even when the sky is doing its usual grey impression. Daily protection, whatever the weather and whatever the season, is one of the simplest things you can do for your skin’s long term health.
If you are investing in treatments, your results stay looking better for longer when you are consistent with SPF. I see it all the time, the best skincare routine in the world cannot outwork daily UV.
If you are unsure what to use, ask me for a personalised SPF recommendation and I will help you find one that actually suits your skin type and sits nicely under make up.
