Congratulations to Stacey Hodgkiss on receiving a Brilliant Award ✨️

Following stoma surgery earlier this year, a patient experienced an unexpected and challenging recovery. Throughout that difficult time, Stacey provided exceptional compassion, reassurance and support, not only for the patient but for their family too.

From advocating for timely care during painful complications to helping build confidence and understanding, Stacey's expertise and kindness made a real difference.

Well done Stacey and thank you for the care, kindness and compassion you show to our patients every day.

💊 Why should you bring your medicines to hospital?

If you’re coming into hospital, please remember to bring all of your medicines with you.

Here’s why it really helps:
✅ You’ll have your medicines when you need them – no waiting for the pharmacy team to order them.
✅ It can help speed up your discharge – if you already have your medicines, getting you home can be quicker.
✅ It reduces confusion – our staff can easily see what medicines you normally take, even if they’re in labelled weekly trays or blister packs from your pharmacy.
✅ Our pharmacy team can check them for you – they’ll make sure everything is correct and that you leave hospital with at least 2 weeks of medicines.
✅ It helps reduce waste – bringing your own medicines avoids duplicates and saves valuable NHS resources.
Please bring everything you take, including tablets, inhalers, creams, eye drops, and medicines in blister packs or dosette boxes.

As World Breastfeeding Week comes to a close, we'd like to thank everyone who plays a part in supporting families.

• Neonatal Teams

• Midwife-Led Tongue Tie Service
• Obstetric and Paediatric colleagues
• Community partners
• And most importantly, the families who place their trust in us every day.

At Barnsley Hospital, we know that successful infant feeding isn't achieved by one individual - it is built through a Warm Chain of Support, where every interaction helps families feel informed, valued and empowered.

World Breastfeeding Week may last seven days, but our commitment to supporting families continues every day of the year.

Strong breastfeeding support doesn't happen by chance - it happens through teamwork.

Every day, colleagues across our maternity, neonatal and paediatric services work in partnership with our community infant feeding teams and public health services to provide families with compassionate, evidence-based care.

This collaborative approach creates a seamless Warm Chain of Support, ensuring families receive consistent guidance and encouragement from pregnancy through to birth, hospital care and beyond. By working together, we are strengthening what works and helping every baby and family get the best possible start in life.

We continue to strengthen our services through:
• maintaining UNICEF Baby Friendly standards
• ongoing joint staff education and training
• listening to the experiences of families
• quality improvement and audit
• specialist infant feeding support
• collaborative working across disciplines.

By continually learning, improving and working together, we are building sustainable systems of care that benefit families today and in the future.

Since May 2024, Barnsley Hospital has offered a Midwife-Led Tongue Tie Service, providing timely assessment and treatment for babies where tongue tie may be affecting feeding.

Made possible through funding from Family Hubs and Start for Life, the service was developed to ensure families have access to timely, evidence-based care when feeding difficulties related to tongue tie arise.
What makes our service unique is that infant feeding is at the heart of every appointment.

Families receive:
• a comprehensive feeding and oral assessment of their baby’s tongue function
• personalised feeding support before and after treatment
• practical guidance to support comfortable, effective feeding
• ongoing advice from experienced infant feeding professionals

For us, supporting families is about much more than a procedure - it's about improving the whole feeding experience.

This is what strengthening what works looks like.

At Barnsley Hospital, all maternity, neonatal and paediatric staff receive education and training to provide consistent, compassionate and evidence-based infant feeding support, ensuring families receive the right support wherever they are cared for.

For families who need additional guidance, our dedicated Infant Feeding Team offers specialist, personalised support, working alongside maternity, neonatal and paediatric colleagues to help parents overcome challenges, build confidence and achieve their individual feeding goals.

Every conversation, every interaction and every act of support can make a lasting difference to a family's feeding journey.
