ππ NIGHT-TIME ROUTINES CAN HELP SUPPORT BETTER SLEEP ππ
Sometimes, a restful night begins long before our head reaches the pillow.
Having a familiar and consistent evening routine can help our body and mind recognise that the day is coming to an end and itβs time to wind down.
For the people we support, particularly those living with dementia, a calm and predictable bedtime routine can also provide comfort, familiarity and reassurance.
Simple things can make a difference:
π°οΈ Try to keep bedtime around the same time each evening
β Enjoy a warm, caffeine-free drink
πΏ Complete personal care in a calm, unhurried way
π‘ Dim the lights and reduce stimulation
πΊ Turn down the television and avoid stimulating programmes before bed
πΆ Try relaxing music or another familiar calming activity
π½ Make sure toileting needs are met before settling
ποΈ Create a comfortable, quiet bedroom environment
π Offer reassurance and allow plenty of time to settle
Most importantly, bedtime routines should be personal to the individual. What feels relaxing to one person may not work for another.
At With YOU in Mind Community Care, we take the time to understand each personβs usual habits and preferences, helping maintain the routines that make home feel like home.
π Familiar routine. Calm environment. Restful night.
Because a good night can help set the foundations for a better day tomorrow. π
