I’m Emma, a Registered Nurse, Independent Prescriber, and the person behind Aurora Beauty. I’ve been in nursing since 2002, qualified in 2005, trained in aesthetics in 2010, and left the NHS in 2022 after two decades that took me through cardiology, community nursing, hospice care, tissue viability, and cosmetic clinics.

Outside of clinic, I’m a serial bridesmaid, a landlady of questionable professionalism, and someone who will absolutely be photographed with a drink in hand at most social occasions! 💃🏼

The lower face is where age tends to show up first and get addressed last.

Most people come in focused on their forehead, their eyes, the lines they've been watching for years. Then they mention that their jawline doesn't look the way it used to, or that something about their face feels heavier, less defined, less like them.

It's one of the most common patterns I see in clinic, and it's also one of the most treatable.

Most people walk into a consultation believing one of a few common myths about their skin.

That more products will eventually fix it.

Today I attended HydroPeptide training at to further my knowledge of this incredible skincare range.

I’ve been using a selection of products for some time and wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the science behind the formulations and how to best personalise them for my patients.

I’m an aesthetic nurse, but somewhere between the consultations, the treatment plans, and the conversations that happen in the room, it became something more than that.

If you're in your forties and your current approach to skin feels like it's stopped working, it probably has.

The skin you have now is operating under completely different conditions to ten years ago, and it needs a different response.

From the early forties onwards, collagen production drops more noticeably, oestrogen levels shift, fat pads redistribute, and cell turnover slows, all at the same time. That's why a single-treatment approach that worked before starts to fall short.

The strategy that works at this stage looks different. It starts with the foundation, because depleted skin won't respond well to treatment or hold results. Medical-grade skincare, the right actives used consistently, and SPF every day are non-negotiable.

From there, the biggest shift is moving away from volume as the default and towards biostimulation.
