What is reiki?
It's a question I've been asked a lot recently and it's a hard one to answer! Many cultures (if not all!) have a concept of a 'life force' or energy that runs through all things - you might of heard it called chi, qi, prana or ether.
We can lean on the scientific explanation too, the first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed or transferred from one form to another....
Reiki channels this 'universal energy', however you decide to think of it, through a trained practitioner like me and directs it to be used for the healing of another person through concentrating on the feedback from their chakras.
Chakras are key points on the body where energy converges in nerve centres and despite being an ancient concept, its validity can be translated in modern biology due to significant correlations between chakra locations and the body's central nervous and endocrine (hormonal) systems.
Chakra translates from Sanskrit to "spinning wheel of light" and can be visualised as a whirlpool or rotating funnel coming out from each of the seven main points on the body.
I can't see them... but this is where the crystals come in! At the start of a session I use a crystal on a chain (also known as a pendulum) to see how each chakra is spinning; whether there is a hesitance, anomalies or over-activity and work with what I find as I share reiki with the person.
We don't question the use of quartz in clocks, so it makes sense to me as a geologist to use crystals' unique properties to aid in my reiki practice. If I find a chakra needs a bit of help, I place a corresponding crystal there and give the reiki a bit of a boost!
At the end of a session clients have all reported a feeling of profound relaxation. Some see colours, others feel as if something has 'shifted' within their body, some feel energised and having "the best nights' sleep" is common feedback too.
Tending to a person's chakras is just the start, we need to look at what might be causing the imbalance in the first place, so I share my thoughts and offer mantras that might resonate. In future I'll be able to work with clients on a deeper level, when I complete my hypnotherapy training.
Now can you see why it's hard to explain what reiki is! If you're curious, or even think its a load of bunkum, give it a whirl... you might be surprised by what you experience❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜
