This week is a ‘Mouth work’ week. Several clients are ready to go that extra step to have the bones in their faces and the soft tissue gently released. This picture shows some of the nerves involved in speech and swallowing which are affected when we hold tension in our jaw, head and shoulders. By gently working in the mouth, we can free up the flow of information from the brain to open our ‘Avenue of Expression’ for clearer communication as well as reducing headaches or neck, shoulder or back pain. Everything is connected.
If this sounds like something you’re in need of, please get in touch via- www.heatherrobertson.co.uk 💖

This area is connected to the tension around the top of the neck. I often work with these two areas to improve communication between heart ❤️ and head 🧠

The mediastinum is the central, visceral compartment of the thoracic cavity. It lies between the right and left pleural cavities (lungs), extending from the sternum to the vertebral column. It houses vital organs, including the heart, esophagus, trachea, and major nerves and blood vessels. The mediastinum is typically divided into four main anatomical regions, separated by an imaginary line running from the sternal angle to the T4 vertebra:

1. Superior MediastinumLocated above the level of the sternal angle/T4, this compartment stretches up to the thoracic inlet.

Key Structures: Arch of the aorta and its three main branches (brachiocephalic, left common carotid, and left subclavian arteries), superior vena cava, trachea, esophagus, thymus, vagus nerve, phrenic nerve, and thoracic duct.

2. Anterior MediastinumThe smallest subdivision, situated between the sternum and the pericardium.

Key Structures: Loose connective tissue, fat, lymph nodes, and the inferior portion of the thymus gland.

3. Middle MediastinumThe central section containing the pericardium and the structures immediately within it.

Key Structures: The heart, ascending aorta, pulmonary trunk and arteries, superior and inferior vena cava, and the phrenic nerves.

4. Posterior MediastinumLocated posterior to the pericardium and the diaphragm, anterior to the T5-T12 vertebrae.

Key Structures: Thoracic aorta, esophagus, thoracic duct, azygos and hemiazygos veins, sympathetic trunks, and the vagus nerves.

TBT - This is something we discuss regularly in the clinic so it felt appropriate to repost it today 🥰

Where do you feel you live most of the time?? 🤷‍♀️

It’s hard to fully engage in the ‘Social Engagement’ behaviours of groundedness, compassion and mindfulness if our nervous system is stuck in fight, flight or freeze mode.

Living in a state of ‘high alert’ for long periods can affect our hormones, metabolism and mental health to name just a few.

There are multiple ways to help your nervous system find more optimum function from manual therapies such as Chiropractic, CranioSacral Therapy and massage, talk therapy such as counselling, mindfulness and meditation practice and physical therapies such as yoga and breathing work.

If you would like any help working out your next step towards feeling less fear, less anxiety and depression and more joy and free energy to REALLY live life to the fullest let us know!
