π¨ Important Update: Changes to NHS Dentistry in Wales from 1st April π¨
From 1st April, NHS dental services across Wales are changing.
π¦· Whatβs changing?
β’ The current Band system (Bands 1, 2 & 3) is being replaced with a new care package model based on patient need
β’ Dentistry will move towards a more prevention-focused approach, prioritising those with the greatest need
β’ Routine check-ups may be less frequent and based on your individual oral health risk
β’ Patient charges are changing β you may be asked to contribute up to 50% of treatment costs, with a maximum cap of Β£384 per course of treatment (excluding lab fees)
π· New example charges include:
β’ Examination from Β£25
β’ Fillings from Β£36.03
β’ Root canal treatments from Β£91.18
β’ Crowns/bridges from Β£140.44
(Please note: costs vary depending on the treatment required, and lab fees may apply to certain items.)
π¨βπ©βπ§ Who still gets free NHS dental care?
Many patients will continue to qualify for free treatment, including:
β’ Children under 18
β’ Pregnant women or those who have had a baby in the last 12 months
β’ Patients on certain benefits
