⚽️😫And 83 just this year!
Although there is beginning to be more attention, focus, media coverage and research emerging in women’s football… the funding, resources and specialist care is ultimately still playing catch up.
It’s a complex, multifaceted issue and there’s not a singular area to blame.
Variances in anatomy, hormonal profile, menstrual cycle, and biomechanics are frequently discussed- but often over blamed and over simplified- by the media (and by many practitioners). Although there may be some contributory factors from such areas- it is so much more complex than that.
For example, another angle…if the right facilities, equipment, access, specialists had always been available over the past 10/-15 years…perhaps the payers would have had:
- Better long term monitoring, testing and profiling, with more data to go on
- Would be better conditioned to cope with the demands of the sport
- Would have been able to recover more effectively
Again, there’s much more to it, and we’ve got a long way to go. But it’s encouraging to see the industry moving in the right direction and shedding more and more light on this issue
