There's a moment every year when Fire begins to settle. 🌾
The energy that pulled us outward all summer starts turning back inward. In Chinese Medicine, this is the passage from Fire to Earth β€” Fire is movement, Earth is what comes after: the quiet work of coming back to center.
Maybe you feel it as tiredness. Or a bit of restlessness that wasn't there before. Nothing's wrong β€” the body is simply adjusting to a new rhythm.
Makko Ho helps with exactly this β€” gentle stretches that support the body as it moves from one season into the next.
This is the season to slow down. 🌿

This video carries a little more meaning for me today.
The song in the background is by Francesco Guccini, an Italian songwriter who left this world on 6 August at 86, and whose words have accompanied me since I was very young, a familiar voice, a refuge, a warm blanket through some of the colder and darker moments of my life.

So this is also my quiet way of saying thank you.
For the words. For the company. For having been there. πŸ–€

San Jiao β€” the Triple Heater. The "organ with no organ": in Traditional Chinese Medicine it doesn't correspond to a single physical structure, but to a function β€” coordinating heat, fluids and energy across three zones of the body (Upper, Middle and Lower Jiao). Together with the Pericardium it forms the Ministerial Fire, and it closes the cycle that began with the Heart meridian in May. As August turns toward Earth, this regulating function is exactly what helps the body adjust to the new season rather than resist it. Swipe through to learn more. 🌿

A point you can press anywhere. 🌿
Waiguan β€” Triple Heater 5. One of the simplest points to use at home, and a good one to know for moments when things feel a little out of balance.
Find it two finger-widths above the wrist crease, on the outer forearm, between the two bones. Gentle, steady pressure with the opposite thumb. Breathe slowly.
The Triple Heater doesn't correspond to a single organ β€” its role is regulation itself: coordinating heat, fluids and energy across the body. Waiguan supports that regulation directly.
Try it for a few slow breaths, wherever you are. 🌿
Save this and try it for a few slow breaths.

August arrives at the hinge of the seasons. πŸ”₯🌾

The Fire Element completes its cycle with the Triple Heater, while Earth begins to stir beneath it.
This month is a turning point β€” a gentle transition from warmth and expansion toward grounding, nourishment and centre.
I’ll be in the studio in Basingstoke until 20 August, then away until 7 September.
If you’ve been meaning to book a treatment before the break, this is a good time to do it. 🌿

In Italy, where I come from, the night of 23 June has always been something special. 🌸
We call it l'Acqua di San Giovanni β€” the Water of Saint John. An ancient tradition, deeply rooted in the Italian countryside, that marks the arrival of summer and the first long, warm days of the year.
The evening of 23 June, as the sun sets, you go out and collect flowers and herbs β€” whatever the season has offered. Chamomile, lavender, clover, St John's Wort, elder flowers, rose petals. You place them in a bowl of water and leave it outside overnight under the open sky.
The morning of 24 June, you wash your face and hands with this water.
It is said to bring health, beauty, and protection for the year ahead.
Whether or not you believe in the magic β€” the gesture itself is worth making. A moment of connection with the season, with the plants, and with a tradition carried through centuries of Italian summers. 🌸

Today is the Summer Solstice β€” the longest day of the year, and the peak of the Fire Element. 🌞
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is the moment when Yang energy reaches its fullest expression. The light is at its most generous. The warmth radiates outward in every direction.
And after today, almost imperceptibly, the days begin to shorten. The energy starts, very slowly, to turn back inward.
This makes the solstice worth pausing for. Not with grand gestures β€” just a moment of awareness.
How am I expressing myself this season? Am I allowing myself to be seen, to feel, to connect? Is my Fire burning steadily β€” or am I burning too bright, or holding back?
Feel the warmth today. Let yourself be in it. 🌞

The Heart feels. The Small Intestine makes sense of what has been felt.
In TCM these two meridians form the primary pair of the Fire Element. When the Small Intestine is out of balance, we hold things in β€” anger swallowed, shock denied, tension accumulating in the neck and shoulders.
Because its roots lie deeper than the muscle.
This month we work with both. 🌿

5 things most people don't know about Shiatsu. 🌿
Shiatsu is one of the most misunderstood therapies in the wellness world β€” often confused with massage, or dismissed as something vague and unproven.
It is neither.
You stay fully clothed β€” on a futon on the floor. No oil, no table, no un******ng.
Every session begins with the diagnosis of Hara β€” a reading of the abdomen that identifies which meridians need support. No two sessions are ever the same.
It works with your energy, not against it β€” nourishing what is depleted, releasing what is held. The body does the healing.
It works on body AND mind simultaneously. The same meridian that carries tension in the shoulders also carries unexpressed emotion.
One session can shift something that has been held for years.
June is Shiatsu Awareness Month. If you have been curious β€” this is your moment. 🌿

June is Shiatsu Awareness Month β€” and if you have never tried it, this is the perfect moment to begin. 🌿
Shiatsu is not a relaxation massage. It is a complete energetic treatment rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Masunaga tradition β€” working along the meridian pathways to support the body's own capacity to rebalance and heal.
What you see in this video is a session in progress. The client is fully clothed, lying on a futon on the floor. The work is quiet, intentional, deeply present.
This month I will be sharing more about what Shiatsu is, how it works, and why it might be exactly what your body needs right now.
Follow along. 🌿

May has been quietly full β€” lots of work, real satisfaction, and the familiar pull of giving to everyone before giving to myself.
The Fire season asks us to tend to the Heart. I'm learning that mine needs tending too. 🌸
