Volunteers' Week 2026🌟

This Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating the incredible difference volunteers make in our care homes every day.

From sharing a conversation and supporting activities to helping in our gardens or baking with residents, volunteers bring companionship, laughter and meaningful moments that enrich the lives of those we care for.

Could you spare some time to make a positive difference?

At Hartford Care, we're looking for volunteers to join our homes and support residents in a way that suits your interests and availability. Hours and days are flexible – it's your contribution that makes you special.🩵

As Dementia Action Week comes to a close, we want to thank everyone who has engaged with our posts, shared experiences, and helped raise awareness💙

This week has been an opportunity to highlight the importance of understanding, compassion, and person-centred support for those living with dementia.

Across Hartford Care, we remain committed to creating safe, supportive environments where residents are treated with dignity, encouraged to maintain their independence, and supported to continue enjoying the moments that matter most to them.

Although Dementia Action Week may be ending, raising awareness and supporting those affected by dementia is something that continues every day.🧠

Meet the team behind our care🩵

This week, we’ve shared the importance of understanding dementia, supporting independence, and creating meaningful moments for those living with dementia - but none of this would be possible without our incredible teams across Hartford Care.

These photos show just some of the compassionate colleagues who make a difference in our homes every single day. From sharing a laugh, offering reassurance, encouraging favourite hobbies, or simply being there during difficult moments, it’s the small acts of kindness that mean so much to residents and their loved ones.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication, patience, and compassion shown by all of our teams across Hartford Care, helping residents feel safe, valued, and truly at home.

Thank you to all of our amazing teams for everything you do🫶🏼

Dementia Action Week - Day 5🩵

Living with dementia shouldn’t mean giving up the things that make you who you are.

Across our homes, we encourage residents to continue enjoying familiar hobbies and meaningful activities - whether that’s baking, gardening, painting, playing games, or spending time doing the things they’ve always loved.

Our teams tailor support around each individual, helping residents maintain their independence, choices, and sense of purpose wherever possible. Because person-centred care is about more than support - it’s about preserving dignity, freedom, and identity every single day.

These moments reflect the kind of person-centred care we strive to provide across all Hartford Care homes🥰

Yesterday we had two beautiful alpacas, Guinness and Alfred the Great, better known as Alfie from Alpaca Adventures come in to spend time with us, It was such a joy to see everyone’s faces light up. 🦙💛

Animal therapy can have such a positive impact for people living with dementia bringing comfort, reducing anxiety, encouraging communication and creating moments of happiness and connection. The smiles, laughter and gentle interactions throughout the visit were truly heartwarming to see.

Guinness and Alfie were absolute stars and brought so much happiness to our residents and staff alike. A huge thank you to Wendy from Alpaca Adventures🦙

It’s Day 3 of Dementia Action Week, and today we’re highlighting the positive impact animal therapy can have for people living with dementia🩵🐾

Animal interactions can provide emotional, cognitive and sensory benefits for residents, helping to support overall wellbeing and quality of life.

Research shows that animal therapy can:
• Trigger the release of relaxation-inducing neurochemicals such as serotonin, oxytocin and dopamine, which can help reduce stress and anxiety
• Create a calm and soothing atmosphere, promoting comfort and emotional connection
• Stimulate the brain through touch, conversation and engagement, while also evoking happy memories of previous pets and experiences

For many people living with dementia, these meaningful interactions can encourage communication, improve mood and provide moments of joy and reassurance.

These lovely pictures are from across a number of our care homes, capturing some truly special moments between residents and their furry visitors🐶

This week has been Fire Week 🔥🚨

Throughout the week we have been carrying out our horizontal evacuation procedure, safely moving residents across zones beyond two fire doors to ensure everyone knows the procedures and feels confident in an emergency situation.

A big well done to both our residents and staff for working together so calmly and efficiently during the drills. Safety is always our top priority and it’s been great to see such teamwork and support throughout the week 👏

On Thursday we were honoured to be invited to sing with the Memory Choir at the beautiful Avington Estate, performing for Southampton University’s fundraising event for the Institute of Medical Innovation.

As it is Dementia Awareness Week, it made the occasion even more special to be part of such a meaningful event celebrating the power of music, connection and community.

It was such an incredible and lovely experience, and we all had a wonderful time. It was a very special day that we will all remember fondly 🎶💙

As we begin Dementia Action Week, we’ll be sharing daily posts to help raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and promote understanding around dementia care.🩵

Today, we’re starting with a common myth vs fact.

❌ Myth: Residents with dementia are unaware of their surroundings and can no longer enjoy activities that they once loved.
✅ Fact: Even when communication becomes more difficult, people living with dementia can still experience joy, connection, and continue enjoying many of the activities, hobbies, and moments they’ve always loved.

By understanding dementia better, we can help create more compassionate, person-centred support for those living with it every day.

Help us raise awareness by sharing this post and supporting better understanding around dementia.

Also, stay tuned throughout the week for more dementia facts, awareness posts, and ways we can all support those affected by dementia.🧠
