Watercress line 🚂

The watercress line is an enjoyable trip especially for those with dementia as it allows them to reconnect with the past and possible buried memories as it is a source of reminiscence therapy.
The vintage carriages and sounds/smells that come with this trip are familiar to our residents with steam trains phased out of the uk in 1968 this experience is very unique!

You may also notice a lovely lady wearing a tiara 👑 for those of you who don’t know this is Eileen! Who celebrated her 100th birthday this week! 🎉 ❤️

Canal cruise 🦆 🚤

Earlier this week some of the residents ventured out in the minibus to another of our fave trips on the canal boat.
This activity is great as it’s all inclusive of everybody the boat is adapted to all levels of mobility and the cruise is enjoyed by all.
It was really nice to have our more conversational yet independent residents join us for this one as it meant they got to know eachother and mingle along with friendships duos that have formed within the home.
The team at Odiham canal are highly recommendable!

Family support social 🍰 ☕️

The community at old Raven always amazes us! we recently received these photos of a social hosted by Ann Birkett, whose late husband was in our care and who continually shows up to support the home and volunteer where she can.

This was an extension to our usual family support group - next meet up is going to be held at old Raven on 11/10 at 11am, hot drinks and cake supplied.

Having a relative living with dementia takes its toll not only on the individual but those around them also, it is so reassuring for us to see the connections made between families relating and going through similar experiences to another.

On a similar note to spread awareness I have attached a poster for a local independent support group for families.

Zoo lab 🐸 🕷️ 🐍

Big thanks to zoolab for their visit last Friday, the insects and reptiles had some of the residents curious and interested whilst others preferred to admire from afar and were a little more cautious. They got to feel and hold frogs, a cockroach, a snake, a stick insect plus more! A very educational and unique Friday afternoon.

Trip to the beach 🏖️

Oh to be these guys enjoying the sun at the coast! With a picnic and ice cream 😋 the coach was hired to take the residents to the coast they were thrilled to be able to get that sense of freedom again with carers to support them. They enjoyed the sea breeze, the crunch of the pebbles and people watching along the pier.
