This morning my six year old got out of bed, walked over to me, and said: “I love a day!”
I looked at him and said, “You love a new day? Like a fresh, new day?”
“Yes,” he said. “I love a new day!” And then he proceeded to chatter away about exactly why.
He’s a pretty happy kid. I know he has the privilege of a home, food, and a family that many children across the world aren’t so lucky to have. But within that privilege, he also carries something that can’t be bought. A genuine, quiet positivity. A real joy in simple things.
Choosing which soft toy to carry downstairs each morning. Telling me something exciting he might do with his friends at school. His family. His garden. His dog.
I sometimes wonder if the billionaires of the world are any happier than my six year old, who gets out of bed and says “I love a day.”
We can kid ourselves into thinking that the next thing, the new item, will bring us joy or solve a problem. And then we get it, and we’re left feeling a little empty. Sometimes all the stuff and the cost of life just adds responsibility that feels like a weight.
Sometimes true joy is found in much simpler things.
Affirmations aren’t for everyone, I know. But I find them genuinely helpful. They help me reset, shift my thinking a little, and reflect. If you’d like to try some today, I have a free audio. Just send me a message and I’ll send it over.
May we all be a little more like my six year old, and "love a day!"
