We've got some big news to share!

Claire and I have taken a big step, and have set up a joint brand.

Introducing, 🥁 drum roll please!… ‘The Mothership Physio (aka TMP)!

Fed up with boring pelvic floor exercises and the internet filled with misinformation, we have created an online postnatal programme for all types of delivery and for every type of birth, empowering mums with evidence- based pelvic health information.

Over the last 4 years, over 250 women have trusted our guidance, and have been in 'Mum and Bub Online’, but the time has come to say goodbye to the Facebook programme, and hello to the new sleek, and shiny, (and oh so, much easier to use!) online platform.

Come check us out… https://www.the-mothership-physio.com, and please tell all of your mum friends, we want to help all mums take ownership of their postnatal journey.

Wish us luck as we move forward!

Emma and Claire,
The Mothership Physio

Remember our London Marathon petition efforts from last July?! Well it’s only taken a year but…..FAITH WON! WE WON! They have just announced major policy change for pregnant and postpartum women that will come into immediate effect!

Thanks to YOUR efforts to support our petition to reform the London Marathon policy that discriminated against new mums, our runner Faith has been able to properly recover from childbirth via unplanned c-section and defer her marathon place by up to 3 years.

Importantly, the latest policy change means Faith and other women like her will keep their championship category place and not have to re-qualify.

“I am relieved to not have to battle the crowds from the general category start line and be able to run by best race this October” says Faith

Faith joined our Mum & Bub postnatal online programme after having her son Davey, and credits our support and advice on the programme to bringing her back to running safely and training for the marathon again.

Good Luck Faith this October and thanks again to everyone for your support to petition the London Marathon for change! It really shows that when we all come together, we really can change the future.

April: International Caesarean Awareness month

1 in 3 mums in England & Wales have a caesarean birth (planned or emergency), and amongst mums over 40 years of age it is the most common method of delivery.

Numbers are increasing worldwide, and in Canada for example caesarean is the highest in-patient surgery (above that of total knee or hip replacements).

Despite this growing proportion, mums often feel poorly educated about caesarean delivery and unsupported in their recovery.

Antenatally there is lack of evidenced based information shared with mums to be and postnatally information rarely goes beyond a few basics of infection risk and the GP 6 week check.

The latest evidence shows that, caesarean birth causes:
- pelvic floor problems (1 in 4 mums suffer irrespective the mode of delivery)
- greater risk of pelvic girdle pain 6mo after delivery
- greater risk abdominal wall pain
- increased low back pain and fear of movement

Many other symptoms can also result from c-section, such as:
- Bladder urgency
- Bloating /constipation
- Skin sensitivity & numbness
- Hip pain
- Painful sex/tampon use
- Fearful and painful movement eg lifting

If you'd like to know more about caesarean birth, then contact myself or Claire Mum and Bub Pilates for an individual assessment and/or join our postnatal Mum & Bub online programme to help you optimise your recovery after vaginal delivery or caesarean birth.

Lovely feedback from Anna, our longest standing member. Hearing this means so much to us and really does make our efforts worthwhile.

2 years ago was when the first covid lockdown hit. Claire founder of Mum and Bub Pilates had just given birth to her third child and I was at the end of mat leave with my first.

There was so much uncertainty in the world but despite having never worked online we had an overwhelming desire to help mums at this pivotal time. To impart our knowledge and empower mums to gain strength and fitness after having their baby and deliver life long learning online.

Thank you Anna for being such a positive member of the group and trusting us to help guide you through your postpartum journey.

Share and like if you know a mum who we could support 💪

Goodbye maternity leave, hello NHS! 👋

Happy to be back working at the RUH in our specialist Physio Pelvic Health team, alongside Midwives, Specialist Nurses and Pelvic Health Consultants in Obstetrics, Urology and Gynaecology.

Super grateful to be in a position to work part time and pursue my dreams and ambitions both in my physio career and as a mummy 😀

Mums are INCREDIBLE at giving and bringing joy to others. 🌈

BUT, when it comes to giving time to themselves or dare I say it, spending money on themselves, they are notoriously BAD!🤯

Elise Redefined Styling by Elise Heptinstall-Holmes inspired two of my fab neighbours and I to plan a child free (!) morning together doing a colour and shape workshop!🎊

It was different, it was joyful and it was a blast of fresh air. 🌈

Elise is a mum running her own business and doing a great job at bringing JOY to lots of mums. "Wear clothes that bring you joy" she says.

How do you bring JOY to you? Tag a fellow mum running their own business... you might just inspire another mum to give time to herself!? 🙋‍♀️

Pelvic girdle pain: what's normal and what's not?

It's NORMAL to have aches and pain during pregnancy that come and go.

It's NOT NORMAL to have pain around your hips and pelvis that persist and prevent you doing everyday activities.🙆

Research shows that 1 in 5 mums-to-be suffer with pelvic girdle pain. For the majority, this pain settles after having your baby, yet that doesn't mean the problem is 'fixed'. It can often predispose the mum to suffering other pelvic health or spinal problems later, especially in subsequent pregnancies.👎

It’s important that if you suspect you have a pelvic health problem to seek professional advice and are given exercise designed specifically for you as early as possible. 🙋🌞

Our Mum & Bub Online postnatal programme provides weekly videos and advice that are targeted to help you understand how to address these imbalances developed during pregnancy and get back to enjoying the things you love.
