Remember the big fuss about "Acu Seeds"?
We do, we didn't even start to count the number of conversations we had with acupuncturists who were confused, amused or angry about the Dragon's Den pitch that eventually got taken off BBC iPlayer and caused the ME Campaign groups to put fingers to keyboards and file official complaints against Dragon's Den, the BBC, AcuSeeds and whoever else they could fire emails at. (We even got asked about it).
Well we DID keep quiet over it mainly, apart from a couple of update posts on the subject. But we can now report that Dragon's Den have defended their corner, saying that they didn't endorse anything (lets not discuss Steve Barlett putting his money into them) and the show is meant as an illustration about what happens in the business world.
We agree, ear seeds won't cure M.E. It's not a strong enough treatment, however ear seeds may help alleviate some symptoms when used alongside a more robust therapy, e.g. acupuncture needling or herbs.
The whole debate and fuss has sparked something though, more and more acupuncturists are training in ear acupuncture than ever before, and we have new people joining our world via ear acupuncture. Whatever the outcome was, we think in the long run, it made people give attention to ear acupuncture and consider it.
